Timeless Fans Take to The Skies…Again

By  |

Last year the fan favorite but low-rated NBC series Timeless was saved from cancellation in an almost miraculous after-the-fact way, being pulled from the cancellation list three days after its cancellation was announced to the world.

In fact, it seemed as if the time travelers in the show had worked their own kind of magic using the Lifeboat to go back in time to convince the powers that be at NBC to give the show a second chance. While that wasn’t the case – although videos posted to Twitter by Wyatt (series lead Matt Lanter) and Rufus (series lead Malcolm Barrett) sure made it look convincing – a second season of Timeless aired on NBC from March to May of this year.

It was the hope of many ClockBlockers (the devoted fans of the show) that the series would get a third season, but sadly that didn’t happen with the official cancellation being announced in June. That didn’t stop the fans, though, as they banded together on social media to send a message to the cast, crew, Sony and NBC that they would fight for the show.

The group took to the skies – literally – raising more than $23,000 in less than two weeks in order to have a 4,000-square-foot banner, flown by helicopter for three hours, over the massive crowds at San Diego Comic-Con in July. A second helicopter also documented the stunt via livestream for fans who were unable to attend in person.

Here is an image of the banner:

The ClockBlockers are returning to the skies of Southern California, once again, with the campaign’s banner taking flight tomorrow, Saturday, September 15 from Noon to 3 PM (Pacific Time), passing over multiple landmarks including the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, the Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach, Manhattan Beach Pier, Angel’s Gate Park, Long Beach, Seal Beach and Balboa Pier before turning back north at Newport Beach and heading inland to wrap up the three-hour flight.

NBC plans to premiere a two-hour special airing of Timeless this fall (presumably in December) – in order to tie-up the massive cliffhanger from the second season’s finale. It is the hope that by taking to the skies, NBC will, once again, rescue Timeless from cancellation.
