Did You Know: TV and Movie Trivia
It’s been a few months since I posted the last “Did You Know” article, and now seemed like the right time to revisit the series, as part of my life-long love of collecting entertainment trivia.
I would love to know if any of our readers knew about any of the items below:
TV TRIVIA
Did You Know…
that actor Dennis Haysbert (24, The Unit and all those All State Insurance commercials) and Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry (Monster’s Ball and the TV show Extant) appeared in the 1993 TV mini-series Queen, which was based on the Alex Haley novel, which told the history of Haley’s paternal grandmother. Berry played the grown up Queen while Haysbert played Davis, her doomed lover?
It should also be noted that a very young Raven-Symone (The Cosby Show and That’s So Raven) appeared as the 5-year old version of Queen in the three-part mini-series.
Did You Know…
that actress Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) and actor Peter Capaldi (Paddington and The Musketeers) – both who appeared in the legendary British series Doctor Who, as [respectively] Amy Pond, companion to the 11th Doctor, and the 12th Doctor himself – both appeared in the 2008 episode of the series entitled “The Fires of Pompeii?”
Peter played Caecilius while Karen played the Soothsayer.
Did You Know…
that Syfy stars Joanne Kelly (Warehouse 13), Lucas Bryant (Haven) and Colin Ferguson (Eureka) all appeared in a Canadian made-for-TV movie in 2006 called Playing House? Even more ironic is that the screenplay for this telefilm was written by Michelle Lovretta, who has gone on to be creator and executive producer on the Syfy series Lost Girl and Killjoys.
MOVIE TRIVIA
Did You Know…
that actor Nathan Fillion (Firefly and the upcoming fall drama The Rookie) and Darby Stanchfield (Scandal and NCIS) – who played former husband and wife on the long-running ABC series Castle – also appeared as husband and wife in the acclaimed cult favorite film Waitress?
He played Dr. Jim Pomatter, the physician to lead character Jenna Hunterson, while Darby played Dr. Francine Pomatter.
