Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: First Looks at Sabrina’s Dark Origins

By  |

Netflix has released the first two official photos from the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and if these photos are any indication, it’s gonna be dark and lovely. Are you as excited as I am?

The first photo gives us our first glimpse of Kiernan Shipka  as Sabrina Spellman. I’m loving the Little Red Riding Hood vibe of that photo. There’s such a sense of foreboding to it.

According to Netflix, “the series imagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.”

The show comes from Riverdale’s Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. He has stated there are no plans for any crossovers between the two shows, particularly given that they are on different networks, but with Aguirre-Sacasa at the helm, you know it’s gonna be great. We do know that Sabrina is going to take the same dark turn that Archie and the gang have taken on Riverdale.

The second photo released is of Sabrina’s dark baptism and gives us a glimpse of some of the primary cast, which includes Kiernan Shipka, Miranda Otto, Lucy Davis, Ross Lynch, Michelle Gomez, Chance Perdomo, Jaz Sinclair, Richard Coyle, Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, Abigail Cowen, Lachlan Watson, Bronson Pinchot and Gavin Leatherwood.

I believe Netflix has ordered 2 seasons of 10 episodes each, which gives me even more confidence that it’s going to be good. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to see it. Maybe I’ll fill the time until it arrives reading the comics. Who’s with me?

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina premiers October 26 on Netflix.

Cara spends way too much time thinking about subtext, and the puns are always intended. When not watching TV, she can generally be found with her nose in a book.
