August TV: My Top 10 Choices
As we enter into the last month of summer very shortly – say it isn’t so?! – there are lots of great viewing options on TV in August. The following are my top choices for next month:
SUMMER LOVIN’
As is tradition, the Hallmark Channel has its “Summer Nights” movies set to air throughout the month, and since I am a big sap I’m looking forward to watching each of them.
Here are the details on each one:
A Summer to Remember will debut on August 4 at 9 PM.
Jessica Tucker (Catherine Bell from Good Witch), a widow and successful doctor, is trying to juggle work and family when she learns she’s up for the top job at the hospital. For a well-deserved vacation, Jessica books a stay at a resort in Fiji so she and her daughter can disconnect and bond. During her stay, Jessica strikes up a friendship with Will (soap star Cameron Mathison), the charming owner of the resort. As Jessica and Will spend more time together, she begins to relax and starts to wonder if this island paradise can give her the life – and love – she’s always hoped for.
Love at Sea will debut on August 11 at 9 PM.
Event planner Olivia (Alexa PenaVega) gets a game-changing opportunity to organize a major event on a luxury Caribbean cruise, hosted by her best friend, cooking and wellness star, Alexandra. She then meets her match in the charming Tony (Alexa’s real life husband Carlos PenaVega), who is on a trial run as Cruise Director, but they must work together to make the cruise go off without a hitch, for the sake of their careers and friendships.
Pearl in Paradise will debut on August 18 at 9 PM.
Alex Anderson (Jill Wagner from Teen Wolf), a photographer for a travel magazine, and Colin Page (Kristoffer Polaha from Condor), a best-selling author, team up to find an elusive Fijian “pearl.” As both of their careers hang in the balance, their treasure hunt in a Fijian valley might lead them to find the only treasure that really matters.
Season for Love will debut on August 25 at 9 PM.
When a talented chef (Autumn Reeser from The Arrangement) returns to her Texas hometown, she winds up entering the town’s famous BBQ cook-off. She gets more than she bargained for when the surprise judge (Marc Blucas from Necessary Roughness) turns out to be her high school love.
FROM BOOK TO SCREEN
The Netflix feature film The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society will debut online on August 10.
A writer forms an unexpected bond with the residents of Guernsey Island in the aftermath of World War II, when she decides to write a book about their experiences during the war. The film stars Lily James (Downton Abbey and Cinderella) Glen Powell (Hidden Figures), Matthew Goode (Downton Abbey and The Crown), Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey and Pride & Prejudice), Jessica Brown Findlay (Harlots and Downton Abbey) and Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones and Nashville).
COMING BACK
The popular Hallmark Channel series Chesapeake Shores will return for the start of its third season on August 5 at 9 PM.
GOODBYE TIL NEXT TIME
The following shows will air their season finales during August:
The 100 on August 7 at 8 PM on The CW.
Private Eyes on August 26 at 9 PM on ION.
Younger on TV Land on August 28 at 10 PM.
WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE
Joining the already overloaded options of streaming series is Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, which will debut on August 31 over at Amazon. John Krasinski (The Office) portrays up-and-coming CIA analyst, Jack Ryan, who is thrust into a dangerous field assignment as he uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit.
