RECAP: The 100 “How We Get to Peace”

By  |

As we saw in last week’s final moments of The 100, Clarke had made a compromise with Diyoza that would require Octavia to surrender (or die) in order to earn a place for the rest of the survivors in Shallow Valley.

Last night’s episode opened right where that scene left off with Clarke, being so determined to protect young Madi, puts Octavia’s brother Bellamy in an impossible position: his sister or everyone else.

Several alternative plans were discussed like Monty’s algae being used to save the Hydro Farm at Polis so that everyone could just survive there without any war [despite the problem with the algae that put someone into a coma back in the day] or the main team [along with a “rescued” Madi] leaving Polis to rescue their friends in Shallow Valley and figuring out a way to survive; but ultimately it came back to stopping Octavia, and essentially stopping another war, in order to save everyone else.

But given the fact that Octavia and her right-hand woman Cooper had those killer worms ready to launch on Shallow Valley with all of the bunker’s warriors at the ready to fight, it was going to end very bloody.

Naturally Clarke and Bellamy came up with the idea of sacrificing Cooper to the worms, which they did. They were also able to convince Indra, Octavia’s left-hand woman (so to speak) to help them by eliminating the worms with the hopes that would stop Octavia from starting a war.

But of course, Octavia and Cooper had come up with a slightly different idea that wasn’t revealed until the very end of the episode after Octavia captured Clarke for conspiring against her but leaving Bellamy alone.

Remember that issue with Monty’s algae? Well, Bellamy had one last trick up his sleeve as well. He used the algae to lace a piece of bread that he then shared with Octavia to stop her and to stop the war. As she fell unconscious as his feet, he uttered his late mother’s words: “my sister, my responsibility.” Ouch!

Meanwhile in Shallow Valley, Abby seemed to figure out how to cure the prisoners, using sound waves but she required an engineer to help boost her existing equipment. And who did see need to help? That would be Raven. Of course, Raven was very happy to see Abby after all those years apart and agreed to help her amp up the equipment because Abby lied that Diyoza threatened her life. When the truth came out, though, Abby used Raven’s shock collar against her and broke Raven’s heart in the process. I doubt Raven will ever trust Abby again.

We also got to see Murphy and Emori again as they attempted to work out a trade with Diyoza: McCreary for Raven. But Diyoza wasn’t interested at all. Once McCreary learned that Diyoza basically left him for dead, he was ready for revenge, using Murphy and Emori’s need to rescue Raven to his advantage. Walking Murphy and Emori into Shallow Valley as his “prisoners” won him praise from all the prisoners – except Diyoza – and gave him the advantage for now. But I don’t think that Murphy and Emori are going to get their end of the deal: getting out of Shallow Valley with Raven.

Did you watch the episode? What did you think of the twist ending with Octavia planning to use the worms’ eggs as well as Bellamy taking Octavia out? What do you think is going to happen between Diyoza and McCreary? Please share your thoughts in our comments section below.

The next new episode of The 100 will air in two weeks on The CW on Tuesday, July 10 at the new time of 8/7c.
