RECAP: The 100 “Acceptable Losses”

By  |

The 100 was back with a new episode on The CW last night, picking up where the last episode ended two weeks ago with Diyoza giving a “tour” of Shallow Valley to the Polis defectors who survived escaping from Octavia’s sniper.

While they may have received a “welcome” [of sorts] to the only surviving piece of land on Earth by the Eligius prisoners, they are collared virtually like animals and ordered to stay inside a dilapidated church with the warning if they try to go too far afield their collars will shock them into submission.

Back in Polis, Clarke and Monty made an eerie discovery in the bowels of the bunker. They found a biocontainment lab where those damn worms that wreaked havoc on the survivors were being harvested inside the bodies of captured defectors. GROSS!

Octavia claimed that she knew about the lab [which didn’t seem to be the complete truth when Indra and Octavia argued later in the episode] and the plan was to use an infected defector to take out everyone in Shallow Valley so Octavia and her people could take over the valley. But that meant that Raven, Echo, Murphy, Abby and Kane would be killed too – “acceptable losses” according to Octavia. However, Bellamy was not about to let their friends be harmed.

This “mission” hinged, however, on Echo getting Monty’s flashdrive into the Eligius main ship in order for them to take down the Eye in the Sky that was aimed at Polis. After using Shaw as a scapegoat [Echo turned him into Diyoza], which then allowed both Echo and Raven to get onto the main ship, Echo was able to complete her mission. But it also meant that Shaw was beaten up by some of Diyoza’s men, and left with the defectors.

There was also a very unexpected reveal in regards to Diyoza. She had been avoiding getting checked by Abby – since so many of the Eligius prisoners are sick and Abby was only allowed to be in Shallow Valley in order to find a cure – but for good reason: she is pregnant! Should we guess that creepy McCreary is the baby daddy – since it was inferred in an earlier episode that he and Diyoza had had sex. Yuck!

Speaking of Abby, she is still taking drugs to keep her awake and help her to sleep, causing Kane to give her the ultimatum: choose between him or the pills. Sadly, she seemed to choose the pills.

As the episode came to a close, Madi showed her real abilities in the ring as Octavia looked on, despite being told to hide how powerful she is with a weapon by not only her adopted mom Clarke but also by flamekeeper Gaia [who actually showed Madi the legendary flame of the Commander, by the way]. Naturally, Octavia saw Madi’s potential and asked for her assistance in the upcoming raid, which caused Clarke to be extremely worried. That worry turned to anger as Clarke reached out to Diyoza, asking what it would take for them to share the valley. Diyoza wants surrender and Clarke tells Monty, Harper and Bellamy that they have to take Octavia down. This is not going to turn out well at all after all Clarke was known as Wanheda, the Commander of Death, and I think she will be a formidable foe for Octavia.

How shocked were you to learn what Octavia was doing with those damn worms? Did you expect to see the Commander’s flame again? What do you think Clarke has planned for Octavia after reaching out to Diyoza? How much jeopardy do you think Madi is in now that Octavia has chosen her for their mission against the prisoners in Shallow Valley? Please share your thoughts in our comments section below.

The next new episode of The 100 will air on The CW on Tuesday, June 26 at 9/8c.
