Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is focused on actress, writer, playwright and director Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Phoebe was born in West London and later graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She made her acting debut in 2009 in the play Roaring Trade at the Soho Theatre located in London. That same year she also appeared in an episode of the British drama Doctors, following that up with appearances in the BBC series How Not to Live Your Life and the BBC TV movie The Night Watch.
She had roles in the 2011 box office films Albert Nobbs and The Iron Lady, and then in 2013 she had a recurring role in the British comedy The Café. She followed that up with appearances in other UK comedies like London Irish, Bad Education and Blandings.
In 2015, she appeared in the second season of the acclaimed BBC series Broadchurch before striking gold as a writer, producer and creator of the comedy Crashing, in which she was also one of the show’s stars.
The following year she did it again, becoming writer, executive producer and lead in the much-buzzed about series Fleabag – which will be returning for a second season – and she is also the executive producer, creator and writer on the BBC America drama Killing Eve, which just came to a close earlier this month, and starred Grey’s Anatomy alum Sandra Oh and The White Princess lead Jodie Comer.
Her latest movie roles included last year’s Goodybe Christopher Robin and this month’s Solo: A Star Wars Story in which she was Lando Calrissian’s droid L3.
