RECAP: The 100 “Pandora’s Box”

By  |

We’ve gotten to see the story of the Earth’s survivors on The CW drama The 100 from three different perspectives so far, but Tuesday night’s new episode brought nearly all of those survivors together – finally! But, it wasn’t all smooth sailing – no in the least.

First we started out in the bunker with more gladiator fighting taking place and Kane being one of the combatants. “Be the last” is the new motto of the bunker. What they are doing to each other is far from justice, but they have come to accept their brutal system of order; except Kane cannot condone it any longer.

In fact, he refused to fight and just as Octavia decided to take justice into her own hands, the bunker shakes and the ceiling came crashing in on them. Much to their surprise, Bellamy was lowered into the arena with Clarke quickly following him. We got to see his reunion with his sister as well as Clarke’s reunion with her mother.

As it was played out earlier in the episode, Bellamy worked out a “deal” with the Eligius prisoners, using their skills as miners to help unearth the bunker, bringing the rest of the Earth’s inhabitants back up to the ground. But much like the title of the episode, opening the bunker was like opening Pandora’s Box.

The prisoners had their own plan. They wanted the doctor (aka Abby) so she could find a cure – although we don’t know what the prisoners need a cure for just yet – and they planned on getting back to the Eligius to rescue the rest of the prisoners who were being used as pawns by the Ark survivors as a way to save Clarke and rescue those in the bunker. Twisted, huh?

Unfortunately, because the leader of the prisoners, Charmaine, decided to turn the tables on Raven and Murphy in the Eligius by open the docking by doors in order to suck out of the oxygen, the duo had no choice but to wake up all of those prisoners in order to stop their imminent demise. But that, of course, left them in probably even more jeopardy because the prisoners who were in cryo-sleep are murderous, horrible people.

As the episode came to an end, Charmaine wanted a missile strike on the ashes of the city, but not surprisingly Raven had put a kibosh on that plan before it could be enacted. However, Charmaine put out a command all the Earth’s survivors would have to stay in the ashes of the city, staying out of the valley – the only surviving patch of land on the entire planet. As Octavia said to Bellamy, “Now we go to war.” That’s not going to bode well for anyone.

What are your thoughts on the show so far? Were you pleased that the people in the bunker were rescued? What do you think will happen to Raven and Murphy? What will Octavia have her people do next?

The next new episode of The 100 will air on The CW on Tuesday, May 22 at 9/8c.
