RECAP: Good Witch “Daddy’s Home”
Last night’s episode of the family friendly Hallmark Channel drama Good Witch mainly focused on the unexpected return of Abigail’s father, but there were a few other “things” going on in Middleton.
The tagline for the episode entitled “Daddy’s Home” is as follows:
“Abigail’s father comes to Middelton in hopes of making amends. Cassie helps an expecting couple accept how different their lives, and family, will be once the baby comes. Grace is forced to think about her future and what path she’ll follow as she realizes her affinity for math might not be a passion.”
Making Amends
As the episode opened, Cassie’s cousin Abigail was surprised by a very unexpected visit from her father Arthur Pershing, who had been out of her life for 22 years; in fact some people were under the impression that her father was dead.
In fact, as Abigail learned at a dinner with her estranged father, it was revealed that he spent many years in prison because of white collar crime. He also admitted that he left his family because he knew his daughter would not like who he was at that time; sadly, she didn’t like her father at all.
Over time, however, and with sage advice from Cassie, Abigail decided to give her father a second chance, which seemed like it would be beneficial to them both until he copied one of her credit cards and requested a credit check for her, which – of course – was reported to her by the fraud department at her bank.
Naturally, Abigail believed he wasn’t reformed at all, and was actually trying to fleece her. But, it turned out, he wanted her to be co-owner (with him) of her childhood home. That part of his surprise for his daughter may not have gone to plan, but she did share that she would maybe come to visit.
In a sweet nod to her childhood, as her father left Middleton, she discovered that he gifted her with a new bicycle – something that she had missed out when she was a little girl – because of her father’s leaving.
Math Champ
Grace announced to her mom and Sam that she made it to the Math Regional Championships; but since Cassie told Grace that she believed she had some guests who would need extra attention the weekend of the championships, Sam would accompany her to the big competition.
Of course, Grace aced the championships, winning the top trophy; but she didn’t seem overly enthusiastic about the win. In fact, she left behind her trophy so Sam drove them back for her to retrieve it. He then asked Grace what she really loved – since she said she was only at the championship so it would look on her college applications. She admitted to Sam on the drive home that she liked writing, history, photography and even enjoyed the time she spent helping at his office. Sam urged her to give all of those a time, doing the things she loved instead of just what looks good on paper.
Martha’s New Project
As Mayor of Middleton, Martha is always looking for or working on a new project. This time around she was inspired by a picture of a 9-year-old Abigail at her first lemonade stand. She wanted all of the women business owners to provide a copy of their high school graduation pictures to coincide with a recent picture of themselves on special signs that would be on display at each of their businesses. This was done not only to salute the women business owners but also to spur on the young girls of Middleton.

The next new episode of Good Witch will air on Hallmark Channel on Sunday, May, 20 at 9/8c.
