RECAP: The 100 “Sleeping Giants”

By  |

It’s the reunion The 100 fans have been wanting for since last year [or six years if you go according to the time jump featured in the series]. But a reunion it was – well – sort of. But let’s go over the other incidents that took place in the intense third episode.

Clarke and Madi

In an effort to protect their home, Clarke used one of the prisoners who attacked her and Madi as a bloody (and I mean literally bloody) hostage to lure the other prisoners; but that plan backfired on them when one of the prisoners used a gigantic weapon on their hiding spot, which left Clarke injured.

Clarke then ordered Madi to hide while she led the prisoners away, but given that she was easily outnumbered, Clarke was quickly captured and taken back to her and Madi’s “home” for interrogation. While Clarke tried to pretend she didn’t understand English, as the prisoners closed in on Madi’s hiding spot, she had to speak up when some of them found and started to chase Madi. It was then that the leader of the prisoners wanted to know how the world ended to which Clarke answered, “Which time?”

Ark Team

The Ark Team headed to the other ship – the Eligius IV – in the hopes of finding the right kind of fuel in order to get their pod back down to Earth (after six long years on the remnants of the Ark). While they found a fuel that would work well enough to complete that mission, they also discovered 300 inmates in cyro-sleep on board the ship. That’s when it became a decision of wiping all of them out right then and there or using them as leverage against the prisoners on the ground. Since the Ark Team could hear what was happening on the ground, thinking that it could be Octavia who was being chased and caught by the prisoners, the Ark Team knew they had to act and act fast.

The decision made by the Ark Team was to use the sleeping inmates as leverage, but in order to control access to their pods – which could only happen from the Eligius IV – one of them had to stay behind; and Raven volunteered. As it turned out, Raven lied to Bellamy that there was an escape pod that she could use to get to the Earth if anything went wrong – there isn’t one! – and now she and Murphy – who, at the last minute, volunteered to stay behind with Raven – are basically trapped up there in space on that prisoner ship.

Prisoners

The prisoners who came down to the Earth are pretty ruthless – McCreary seeming to be the worst of the bunch (that we’ve seen so far) – but Shaw doesn’t seem to be as bad as the rest. Let’s hope that know that most of the Ark Team are on the ground that Bellamy can somehow work with Shaw.

Madi’s Takedown and That Reunion

How about little Madi taking out those heavily-armed prisoners to save Emori, Harper, Monty, Echo and Bellamy? She is quite the fighter isn’t she? And, thank God for Clarke’s drawings and stories of her friends on the Ark, letting Madi immediately recognize Bellamy.

And while the reunion – for now – was short-lived, it was the reunion we’ve been waiting for quite some time. It started with the shocked expressions of the Ark Team learning that Clarke is alive and Clarke seeing Bellamy standing before her.

What did you think of the third episode of the fourth season of the show? Things are getting even more intense and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to let up anytime soon, but that is how The 100 works; and I don’t think any of us would have it any other way. Please share your thoughts on the episode in our comments section below.

The next new episode of The 100 will air on The CW on Tuesday, May 15 at 9/8c.
