Tribute to TV Moms

By  |

With Mother’s Day coming up on Sunday, now only seemed like the right time to focus on some of my favorite TV moms. Once you’ve checked out my list, please share your own. And, most of all, if you are fortunate enough to still have her in your life, make sure to spend the day with your mom, letting her know how important she is to you.

GLAM GRAM

Martha Rodgers on Castle – Susan Sullivan portrayed Martha Rodgers, the mother of Richard Castle and grandmother of Alexis Castle, on the long-running ABC drama Castle from 2009 to 2016. Martha was an actress on and off Broadway who was known for being very dramatic not only in her fashion (she did call herself a “Glam Gram”) but also a loving and dedicated mom and grandma.

SECRET MOMMA

Leslie “Liza” Miller on Younger – Sutton Foster plays Liza Miller on the TV Land dramedy Younger, which will start its fifth season on June 5. Liza is a 40-something woman, who lied about her age in order to get a job in book publishing after her divorce and learning that her husband’s gambling addiction has left them deep in the red. Liza’s daughter Caitlin is currently in college.

UNEXPECTED MOM

Jane Villanueva on Jane the Virgin – Gina Rodriguez has been portraying Jane Villanueva since the show debuted in 2014. Jane became an unexpected mom after she was accidentally artificially inseminated by her baby daddy Raphael’s sister Dr. Luisa Alver. Her little boy, who is now 5 years old, is Mateo.

ONE TOUGH MOTHER

Madeline Westen on Burn Notice – Veteran actress Sharon Gless portrayed Madeline Westen in the long-running USA Network series Burn Notice from 2007 to 2013. Madeline was simply put one tough mother dealing with her son Michael being a CIA operative turned PI. She ultimately sacrificed her life to save her grandson in the series finale.

SUPER MOM

Kristine Sutherland on Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Kristine Sutherland appeared as Joyce Summers in 58 episodes of the cult classic series Buffy the Vampire Slayer from 1997 to 2002. For quite a while she was oblivious about her daughter’s powers, but once she learned the truth she became her own version of a super mom. Joyce tragically died in the February 27, 2001 episode “The Body” that was traumatizing not only for the characters on the show but also for the fans.

Do you agree with any of my selections? If not, who are your top TV moms? Please share!

Happy Mothers Day!!
