ONE CHICAGO Women: CHICAGO MED “This Is Now” (3×18), CHICAGO P.D. “Allegiance” (5×21) & CHICAGO FIRE “The Unrivaled Standard” (6×21) recap

By  |

As we gear up towards season finales, the ONE CHICAGO world wasted no time in setting up some high stakes this week. Between a mass shooting and one of their own being stabbed, it sure was a dramatic few episodes and boy were we on the edge of our seats! Read on to find out what happened with the leading ladies of CHICAGO MEDCHICAGO P.D. and CHICAGO FIRE this past week…

Sharon Goodwin:

The chief administrator’s battle with the board for money for more equipment and resources is momentarily put on hold this week when the ED becomes overrun with patients courtesy of a mass shooting. There are patients everywhere and more on the way so Goodwin allows Choi to implement a plan to make the ED less chaotic and he suggests categories and an assembly line, which seem to help the madness. Goodwin is also assisting P.D.’s Jay Halstead, who thinks that the shooter is inside the hospital and has some plain clothed cops keeping their eyes out. They tackle one guy but it turns out he’s not the shooter but he was looting belongings of others, which is pretty despicable during his traumatic time. It’s actually Dr Charles who ends up figuring out who the shooter actually is. At the end of this intense episode, we’re told that everything that took place was over the course of a two-hour period – sure felt longer! The hospital’s lawyer congratulates her on how she handled the events and tells her that board is pleased so she’ll get that machine she requested, but she tells him if this incident proved anything, it’s that the machine won’t do – they’re going to need more funding, heck they’re going to need a new ED!

Maggie Lockwood:

With the ED filling up with patients and running out of trauma bays (at one point Dr Rhodes was doing surgery in the doctor’s lounge!), Maggie did a pretty good job keeping calm and trying to keep things under control. When she realized there weren’t enough nurses to help, she thought quick on her feet and soon had volunteers (including Dr Choi’s sister) assisting with treating wounds. Maggie is someone you want around during a crisis!

Dr Natalie Manning:

From the moment that she hears about the shooting, Manning is pretty concerned as her son sometimes rides his scooter at the park where the shooting took place. Throughout the episode she is trying to get a hold of her nanny to find out whether she took her son to the park and whether they’re okay. Nat says she’s okay but when she panics and mistakes another child for her son, it’s clear she’s not and she ends up needing to take a breather outside. While outside, Dr Charles notices an injured man bleeding out and calls for assistance so Nat helps him. When she later finds out that the man was the shooter and her colleague knew, she is furious and yells at him. Once the hunt for the shooter is over, unknownst to Nat, Dr Halstead manages to find her son and brings him to the hospital. He was at the park but made it out safely to a nearby police station. Looks like someone is back in the good books again.

April Sexton:

April is pretty busy helping patients. There’s a sad moment where a young boy is brought in and sadly doesn’t make it so April carries him away from the ED and into another room, which turns out to be where they’re holding the young deceased for the time being. It was pretty confronting to see so many small bodies covered in sheets. Prior to the shooting, she was pretty sympathetic towards Choi’s sister Emily, who is now volunteering at the hospital and they bonded over the not-so-glamorous aspects of working at the hospital.

Dr Sarah Reese:

It’s all hands on deck in the ER and Reese treats a teen who passes out in the waiting room. Unfortunately he ends up dying and Reese has to inform the mother.

Kim Burgess:

With the focus of this week’s episode being on Olinsky’s indictment and Halstead and Atwater’s undercover mission of trying to stop gangs from selling military grade weapons, the female members of Intelligence are background players this week. However, she does step in to break up a fight between Antonio and Voight at the end of the episode.

Trudy Platt:

Off the top of my head, this is probably one of the top three episodes this season where Platt has made the most appearances. First we see when she has to bring in the guys who come to arrest Olinsky, then she’s there with Intelligence when Voight fills them in on what’s happening with Olinsky. She’s also there with the rest of the Intelligence team during Olinsky’s hearing.

Hailey Upton:

As mentioned before, the Intelligence ladies are on the backburner this week so apart from working the case and supporting Olinsky, we don’t get much on the Upton front.

Gabriela Dawson:

Remember those private paramedics that been popping up during the last half of this season? Dawson and Brett end up on a call involving them and once again the way these private guys handle their latest situation leaves Dawson unimpressed but glad that she didn’t go over to the dark side. Also this week, Severide’s ex Renee from way back in Season 1 is back in town and Dawson fills Kidd in on the history there. Yep, Dawson sure is not a fan of Renee’s – not that we blame her. Trying to pass off her kid as Severide’s was not cool.

Sylvie Brett:

Despite Brett’s advice last week, Cruz went ahead and hooked up with his married high school sweetheart and then lies about it. But the truth has a way of coming out and it does in the form of said woman herself when she comes to drop off Cruz’s money clip that he left at her hotel the night before. Of course Brett happens to be the one she sees first and gives it to. When Cruz returns to the firehouse, Brett is pretty pissed that he lied to her and things are pretty tense. It’s not until he ends up breaking it off with Delia and gets punched by Delia’s husband anyway, that all is right with Brett and Cruz after he apologizes and she helps him ice his shiner.

Stella Kidd:

Now that they’re not living together, Kidd wants her and Severide to go out on a date and he surprisingly agrees. But then his ex Renee turns up asking for his expertise on a case she’s working on (she’s a lawyer) and I don’t know about you, but remarking about Severide’s “rugged good looks” doesn’t exactly strike me as professional? Once Dawson fills Kidd in on Renee, she’s understandably a bit wary of the woman. Hopefully this isn’t going to affect Kidd’s relationship with Severide!

CHICAGO MED airs Tuesdays at 10/9c. The season finale of  CHICAGO P.D. airs Wednesday at 10/9c and the 2-hour season finale of CHICAGO FIRE  airs Thursday at 9/8c. All three shows air on NBC.
