Wow, talk about tensions – the ONE CHICAGO world was full of them this week! Read on to find out what dramas the leading ladies of CHICAGO MED and CHICAGO FIRE faced this week…

Sharon Goodwin:

When a baby who was meant to be transferred from the ED to the PICU goes missing, Goodwin calls a code pink and puts the hospital in lockdown until they find the baby, which means no one leaves the hospital or is able to come in. Thankfully the baby is found later in the episode but that’s not the only drama that Goodwin has to deal with – when charge nurse Maggie makes the decision to crack open a patient and intubate, Goodwin has no choice but to suspend her even though Goodwin herself admits that she would have done the same thing in Maggie’s shoes. Unfortunately rules are rules.

With the hospital on lockdown following the kidnapping of a baby, the ED is pretty hectic and doctors are occupied. When a patient takes a turn for the worst and there being no doctors around to help, Maggie decides to treat the patient herself despite the fact that nurses are not allowed to intubate – it’s a job for the doctor. When Noah Sexton discovers Maggie treated his patient when he wasn’t around, he’s not impressed and tells her off but April steps in and defends Maggie. Unfortunately the patient takes a turn for the worst and Maggie is called to Goodwin’s office and is not impressed when Goodwin suspends her.

Dr Natalie Manning:

There is still tension between Manning and Halstead following last week’s tiff and matters this week don’t help mend them. The pair are treating a cancer patient whose prognosis isn’t looking good. Nat suggests they try a new treatment that hasn’t been properly tested but Halstead pulls rank as her superior and vetoes it. In what feels like a total role reversal from last season where Halstead was constantly disregarding the moves and doing his own thing, Nat goes ahead and does it anyway behind Halstead’s back. When the patient takes a turn for the worst and the blame is planted on the new drugs, Halstead takes the blame, leaving Manning furious and protesting that she’s not a damsel in distress that needs to be saved. Later with more tests, it’s then revealed that the drugs did actually help the patient and Halstead is congratulated on his quick thinking. Halstead tries to give Nat the credit but she leaves the room. He follows after her but she’s still mad despite his efforts and tells him that being in a relationship with him has her feeling caged professionally and that she thinks they need to take some time apart. Uh-oh!

April Sexton:

April is working with Choi when the hospital goes into lockdown and Choi needs to operate on a patient but it’s not his specialty. Dr Rhodes is outside of the hospital at a function so Choi and April end up facetiming him and Dr Bekker so that they can guide him through the procedure. Dr Rhodes ends up sneaking back into the hospital through some secret tunnels to assist Choi. Also in this week’s episode, April defends Maggie’s actions to her brother.

Dr Sarah Reese:

Reese now knows the truth about her father and to say that she isn’t happy is an understatement. Dr Charles tries to make her feel better by telling her that at least she knows that when he abandoned her all those years ago it wasn’t to do with her, but she feels like the truth is just as worse. The two psych doctors are then called in to assist on the kidnapping case to hopefully get a sense of the perpetrator’s state of mind. When they find the woman who abducted the baby, Reese calmly talks to her and tells her nothing will happen. Once the baby is safely out of the woman’s hands, the authorities move in to take the woman into custody and she looks at Sarah protesting that she promised that nothing would happen. Later Reese shares with Dr Charles that her detachment from the situation could be a sign of psychopathy that she inherited from her father and Dr Charles tries to convince her otherwise.

Gabriela Dawson:

With it looking like Cordova sticking around longer than they thought, Dawson realizes she’s going to have to tell Casey that she has a romantic history with the newbie but Cordova asks her to wait a couple of shifts so he can prove himself before Casey learns about their personal history. In the meantime, she casually asks her husband what he thinks about the new guy and he doesn’t seem to think he’s the right fit so maybe Dawson won’t need to tell him after all. Wrong. After Cordova proves himself on a call, it seems like the rest of the team is warming up to him and he might be allowed to stick around after all. We all knew this was going to come back to bite them and it does after shift at Molly’s when a fellow firefighter from another house remarks that Cordova once said he’d never go to Molly’s “because he used to bang one of the owners”. Ooft Casey’s pissed but not because of the history but because Dawson kept it from him. Speaking of blasts from the pasts, Dawson runs into a fellow former ambo who has gone into the private sector and invites Dawson and Brett to come to the dark side. Dawson is seriously considering it, especially after her tiff with Casey but when the privateer paramedics flee a shooting scene because the victims don’t have insurance, she tells the fancy paramedics they can shove their offer.

Sylvie Brett:

This week Brett gets to return the favor of being a confidant when Dawson tells her about her history with Cordova. There’s also an intense moment when Brett and Dawson get caught out in a shoot out while tending to some victims on a call.

Stella Kidd:

Kidd and Severide’s thing is tested when Severide’s mom comes into town and stays with them and Kidd is convinced that Momma Severide doesn’t like her. Severide thinks his mother is a saint and doesn’t hate anyone but we think it probably doesn’t help that Kidd keeps accidentally saying the wrong thing around her either. Although at the end of the episode it seems like Momma Severide is warming up to her but that’s going to be the least of the new couple’s problems because it looks like Severide’s parents are getting back together and he’s not happy about it. Also this week, Kidd bonds with a young boy they rescue from a local swimming pool whose parents are nowhere to be found on the scene.
