Good Witch Season Premiere Recap: “With This Ring”

By  |

The fourth season of the popular Hallmark Channel drama Good Witch got underway last night, focusing on Sam trying to find the perfect engagement ring for fiancée Cassie, Grace and Nick faking a truce to appease their parents and Cassie giving out jewelry to her friends that turn out to be just what each of them needed.

Cassie and Sam

The happy couple have yet to tell their kids about their engagement, but after Sam paid a visit to Cassie’s favorite jewelry store, the store owner inadvertently broke the news to Sam’s son Nick, who – obviously – told Grace what he learned about their parents. Thankfully neither of the kids seemed bothered by their parents getting engaged…

Nick and Grace

…but the teens still have a problem with each other over the Courtney incident. Viewers should remember that Nick and Grace’s friendship imploded because Grace broke the news to Courtney that Nick wanted to break up with her at the end of last season. Neither Nick nor Grace can forgive each other for what went down, but once they learned about their parent’s engagement, they faked a truce, as they collectively decided to put their parent’s happiness before their own.

Steph and Ben/Tom and Martha

While we didn’t see Ben in this episode, Steph announced her break-up from him to Abigail and Martha. That would explain why the café has been renovated and why Steph has been a little “off” lately. Whereas, Martha – due to her extremely busy schedule as Mayor of Middelton – has been neglecting her husband Tom; but he finally got the opportunity to tell her about the new business opportunity offered to him in Chicago.

Abigail

Cassie’s cousin Abigail has always been a difficult character to like because she has played both sides of the field, helping out her family sometimes as much as hurting them. But this time around she finally did something right and fair. Long story short she acquired the Merriwick Gimmel ring that had been a rumor within the Merriwick family for hundreds of years; a ring that Cassie would love to receive from Sam. Of course, it really isn’t that ironic that the ring turned up just in time for Sam to give it to Cassie – this is Good Witch after all – but it sure made for a touching moment between the couple.

What are your thoughts on the season premiere of Good Witch? How beautiful was that Gimmel ring? What do you think about Grace and Nick’s ongoing argument? Please share your thoughts in our comments section.

The next new episode of Good Witch will air on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday, May 6 at 9/8c.
