Roundtable Discussion: Blindspot “Clamorous Night”

By  |

Friday night’s new episode of Blindspot found each of the team members in jeopardy because of ruthless assassins sent to kill them based on a kill-order from Roman; but what was even more interesting was how all but one of them was able to get the upper-hand.

Here is the official tagline for the episode entitled “Clamorous Night”:

“The team faces a deadly threat on all of their lives. Roman’s allegiances are tested.”

Please join Cay, Leah, Lisa and Rueben as they go over what went down in the episode:

How great was it to see Rich back in an episode, having something to do with each member of the team before each assassin attack played out?

Cay: I initially got confused when the action first went back to him and his pizzas to follow the next character as I was streaming it and thought that the playback had glitched! Once I figured out that it was intentional, I like how the action rewound to follow each character. And I always love Rich’s one-liners. Especially the Boy Scout one.

Leah: I love episodes like this…and I love Rich so….it was fantastic for me.

Lisa: It was awesome!! Anytime we get to see Rich, I’m happy. This was a great episode.

Rueben: I agree with you all. Having Rich be the connection between each team member’s perspectives of the story was great to watch. The writers really do give him the best lines, don’t they?

The lighter moments in the episode were the horrible restaurant Rich told Jane and Weller to go to, the awkward taxi ride with Reade and Millicent and the cooking class for Patterson and Jack. Which one stood out more for you?

Cay: Patterson and Jack were the funniest – not a good (or unusual) first date (see below).

Leah: I half expected the Jane and Weller restaurant to be like a skit from Stefan on SNL. That said, Patterson and Jack were the most fun/cringeworthy.

Lisa: I agree. The scene with Patterson and Jack was so awkward and uncomfortable. I think many people can relate to having such an uncomfortable first date.

Rueben: I was so hoping for more of a connection between them, but as he kept telling her things about himself – especially the Groupon/Diane issue with the cooking class – I kept cringing even more. It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

Did you expect Jack to be so odd? A blog post about Bigfoot? He vapes? The Groupon he got for that cooking class with his ex-girlfriend that required Patterson to wear a “Diane” nametag? Groan! What were your reactions to their awkward first date?

Cay: Yep, this seems pretty par for the course on a lot of my first dates…The Bigfoot blog I liked (reminds me of Mulder from X-Files), the vaping would have been a deal breaker, along with the Groupon date wearing ex’s nametag!

Leah: How awful and hilarious was that date!

Lisa: The Bigfoot thing and the fact that he Vapes were a little weird but what really set me off was the fact that he asked her to pretend that her name was Diane?? I can’t remember the name, but there is no way in hell I would go on a date with a man that asked me to change my name to his ex-girlfriend’s name. That took the cake!

Rueben: All of it was just bad! The Bigfoot blog was just ridiculous – the vaping would have sent me over the moon [I just don’t approve of that at all] and the Diane nametag thing – PLEASE!!!

What is the deal with Crawford’s attorney? Does she know more about Roman than expected?

Cay: Where did she suddenly appear from? She’s definitely bad news. Roman needs another foil anyway – he’s gotten too comfortable in his new fake life.

Leah: Well….now that Roman doesn’t have Crawford’s second (whatever his name was) to be suspicious of him we need someone. I guess the attorney is it.

Lisa: I don’t like her. I feel like we blinked and she was someone who is important to the story yet we don’t really know who she is. Meh.

Rueben: Yeah, I agree. It’s like she just showed up in that episode at the big gala as if she’s been an important part of the story without our ever knowing about her. There is WAY more to her than meets the eye, and I have to wonder just what she knows about Roman.

Were you expecting the results of how each team member got the upper-hand on their assassins (except for Jane – since she was tasered)?

Cay: Yeah, it’s not sweeps, so I didn’t expect anyone to get killed off or significantly wounded. Their escapes fit with what we know about the characters. I did like them all rushing to help the next member of the team, though.

Leah: I second Cay.

Lisa: Me too. I didn’t think anyone would die but it was cool to see the team work together to save the next. I think Reade’s person hiding in the bathroom was the most shocking for me.

Rueben: Exactly, Lisa. I actually felt bad for Millicent – as we weren’t supposed to like her since she was on a manhunt against Reade – but she didn’t deserve for that to happen to her. It was really something watching each of them take down their assassin and then help the next member of the team. Team work, right?!

How about Rich sneaking that letter off Millicent’s desk yet telling Reade it didn’t exist? Do you think that anyone else may have known about it?

Cay: You would think the original must still be on her computer, but because she was killed in a clear assassination attempt on Reade that she seems to clearly have been a bystander in, will anyone really look that close?

Leah: I mean, they must have showed us because it will come back to haunt everyone but I’m with Cay, who would even look that close?

Lisa: It was awesome that he took the letter, but I definitely don’t think that will be the last we see or hear of it. Unfortunately.

Rueben: Agreed. If it was a moot point, Rich shredding the letter wouldn’t have even been shown. Let’s just hope that Roman doesn’t know about that investigation and he gets his hands on the letter somehow.

Any other thoughts on the episode?

Cay: Good episode – some humor, lots of seriousness, a new impediment for Roman.

Lisa: I really enjoyed this episode. More Rich please!

Rueben: Loved the scene with Rich and Reade where Rich kept winking, etc. at Reade about Millicent and her witch hunt. Like I said above the writers give Rich all the best lines and Ennis just seems to run with it all. Definitely helps lighten up the seriousness of the episodes.
