Shoot the Messenger: A Who’s Who

Shoot the Messenger, a WGN American Original, airs tonight and it’s a must watch. This 8-part series follows a young reporter trying to balance a messy life with a burgeoning career. She tracks a story about a gang-related murder, and discovers an interconnected web of political and illicit sexual indiscretions that could destroy lives, including those of her own family.

If you have watched TV in the last decade the entire cast is recognizable. That’s not an exaggeration either, the whole cast down to the supporting players are from shows I have loved over the years. It just makes the show even better.

The main four:
Elyse Levesque (The Originals and Orphan Black) as Daisy Channing
– Daisy is the young report mentioned in the synopsis.
Lyriq Bent (Rookie Blue & She’s Got to Have it) as Kevin Lutz
– Kevin is a police detective and Daisy’s lover.
Lucas Bryant (Haven) as Simon Olenski
– Simon is a seasoned reporter who Daisy needs in order to navigate this major story.
Alex Kingston (Dr. Who) as Mary Foster
– Mary is the editor of the paper. She is tough but fair.

The pilot was great. A good mix of character stories and crime mystery. You get a feel of who the characters are and you can’t wait to watch where they are going. It felt like a puzzle that was being put together and I was eagerly looking for the next piece.
