Introducing Cupid’s Match on Valentine’s Day

By  |

In 2017, the most viral story from Wattpad Cupid’s Match, written by Lauren Palphreyman, garnered 35 million reads online.

On Wednesday, as everyone is celebrating Valentine’s Day, the pilot episode of Cupid’s Match will air on CW Seed. The pilot stars Robert Palmer Watkins (General Hospital) and relative newcomers actress Michel Janse and actor Dane Oliver.

The pilot tells the story of Lila Black (Michel Janse), a 17-year-old high school student who finds herself in a supernatural world of romance, adventure, and betrayal when the mysterious Cupid’s Matchmaking Service contacts her to let her know she’s been matched with the one and only Cupid, which is in fact not a good thing.

Lila discovers there is a whole secret organization of cupids, and their number 1 rule is they can never be matched up with anyone. The fact that the original Cupid has been matched up is unprecedented, and legends say that very bad things will happen if Lila falls for Cupid who of course is quite irresistible. Soon there is a chaotic frenzy as everyone around Lila and Cupid works to try and understand how this match happened and how they can stop it. Enemies assemble, mythical arrows fly, and an evil Goddess is awakened.

The CW, Wattpad and Tongal, the Santa Monica-based global network of 120,000 professional creatives and a proprietary development platform, partnered together to develop the digital pilot and to search for talent to bring the book to life as a can’t-miss series. Three finalists received funding to produce a proof of concept in the form of a series trailer, and one grand prize winner – the mother-daughter team KR Squared Productions, who can be followed on Twitter @KR_squared_prod – was selected to create the pilot episode with the potential to develop the entire series.
