Do You Remember?: Drive

By  |

Actor Nathan Fillion is best known for his long-running role of Richard Castle in the fan favorite ABC series Castle as well as his role of Captain Malcolm Reynolds in the short-lived but pop culture hit series Firefly, which aired on FOX. But do you remember the other short-lived FOX series that he starred in called Drive?

Drive was set against the world of an illegal cross-country auto road race, focusing on the willing and unwilling competitors and the unseen “puppet masters” who support the race. The show was a wild combination of Cannonball Run, North by Northwest and Magnolia (on wheels).

The show was created by Ben Queen (A to Z and Powerless) and Tim Minear, who was a writer and producer on Firefly and has gone to work on American Horror Story and 9-1-1 [among many others].

The two-hour premiere of Drive aired on FOX on April 15, 2007, which was watched by six million viewers. Only four episodes of the show aired with the show getting cancelled very quickly. Six one-hour episodes had been filmed, but while those final two episodes were supposed to air in July of 2007, the network pulled them entirely but those final episodes did eventually air online.

In addition to Nathan Fillion being part of the ensemble cast, there were a lot of familiar faces in this very short-lived series, including:

Emma Stone, who has gone on to star in box office movies like Easy A, The Help, The Amazing Spider-Man; oh and a little movie called La La Land.

Kristin Lehman, who has gone on to appear in The Killing, Motive, Rogue, Ghost Wars and the recently released Netflix series Altered Carbon.

Kevin Alejandro, who has gone on to appear in Ugly Betty, Southland, True Blood, Arrow and is currently a regular on Lucifer.

J. D. Pardo, who has gone on to appear in Revolution, The Messengers and will be seen in the new FX drama Mayans MC.

Dylan Baker, who has gone to appear in Damages, The Good Wife, The Americans and will be seen in the upcoming, latest small screen adaptation of Little Women.

Rochelle Aytes, who has gone on to star in Criminal Minds, Mistresses and will be seen in the Disney movie Magic Camp.

Melanie Lynskey, who has gone on to appear in Two and a Half Men, Togetherness and will be seen in the Hulu series Castle Rock.

Taryn Manning, who has gone on to appear in Sons of Anarchy, Hawaii Five-0 and the huge online hit series Orange Is the New Black.

Riley Smith, who has gone on to appear in 90210, True Blood, Nashville, Frequency and will soon be seen in the new series Life Sentence.

Mircea Monroe, who has gone on to appear in Hart of Dixie, Impastor and Episodes.
