Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Roundtable: “Fun and Games”

By  |

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returned to ABC with its first new episode of 2018 on Friday night, delivering on the events of the last episode with Fitz showing up in the future. The episode found Inhumans having to fight to the death before cronies of the devious Kree “ruler” Kasius.

The official tagline for Friday’s episode, entitled “Fun and Games” is as follows:

“With Daisy’s life on the line, an unexpected friend attempts to rescue her.”

Join Karen and Rueben as they talk about what happened in the episode:

What did you think of the fake identity that Enoch set up for Fitz?

Karen: LOVED. IT. I mean, how much more Han Solo & Princess Leia combined could he be without actually BEING them? Savior as a Bounty Hunter in disguise? Amazing.

Rueben: It was pretty cool, wasn’t it? I especially enjoyed making him a marauder with an endless supply of money in order to bid on the Inhumans involved in the battles that were featured. It was always quite freeing for Fitz to be as honest as he wanted to be without Kasius having the upper-hand.

How did you feel about Fitz and Jemma’s first encounter despite the fact she couldn’t hear what he had to say especially his proposal?

Karen: C’mon, it HAD to be like that, right? It’s never smooth sailing for those two, and with the end of the episode on such a high note, they had to give us the quirky miscommunication at the start.

Rueben: Very true. WE knew she couldn’t hear him but we all WANTED her to hear him! Thank God they didn’t leave Fitz hanging too long on why she didn’t react at all to what he said.

There were some comical lines throughout an otherwise fairly violent episode. Did any of them stand out for you?

Karen: I loved the conversation between Daisy and Simmons after her hearing is back. They commiserate over Ben’s death, but there’s also some humor there.

Rueben: I really enjoyed the shock by Coulson and Mack over the fact that young Flint had NO idea what a taco was – that was priceless. And, Jemma saying she prefers Fitz in a cardigan. It was just so nice to have that little bit of levity.

What was your reaction to the death of Inhuman Ben by that blue bitch Sinara and the unexpected hanging of Tess by the Kree?

Karen: I didn’t like it. No sir, I didn’t like it one bit. (Sorry, channeling Mr. Horse). I’ll miss both of those characters of course, but it’s a WHEDON SHOW. Nobody’s immune. Being a good guy doesn’t give you special armor in any Whedon-verse.

Rueben: I was pretty upset by that! You have a very valid point about no one being safe on a Whedon show. I hate Sinara and really wanted to see her go down for good because of Daisy. I was not expecting that kind of end for Tess. It just seemed so very harsh, but I guess that is just the Kree way, huh?

How great was it that Jemma proposed to Fitz as they fled from that big battle between Daisy and Sinara? Who do you think is gonna win the “argument” of who proposed first?

Karen: Perfect. I mean… just perfect. I have a feeling it will be an anecdote they tell to their Grandkids, don’t you?

Rueben: Absolutely, it’ll be a great story for them to retell and retell. It’s also going to be great quip for them to use at each other over the rest of the season.

What do you think Enoch is up to from that very last scene? Where is he going? And, is he really Kree or did he simply paint himself blue to pass as a Kree?

Karen: Oh, he’s not Kree. That’s his key to getting around the base. He’s going to the surface. I don’t know what he’s going to do there, but I’m guessing we’re going to find out right quick-like. Perhaps to be a guide of sorts, for the SHEILD folks, once they start arriving?

Rueben: I felt pretty sure that he wasn’t a Kree, and it was just a disguise to help him get around the base, but since he wasn’t in blue face with Fitz during the earlier scenes, it just threw me as to what his plan is. Hopefully he can help all of the SHIELD team on the surface especially since May was being sent there and the others seemed intent on heading there. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
