Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Aline Brosh McKenna
Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is shone on Writer, Producer and Director Aline Brosh McKenna.
Aline was born in France, but moved along with her family to New Jersey. She later graduated with great honors from Harvard University, and went to New York City to find a job in publishing, ending up doing some freelance writing. A script she wrote during a 6-week course in screenwriting at New York University helped her get an agent. She later moved to Los Angeles, landing her first job as a writer and supervising producer on the short-lived TV series All-American Girl, which starred comedienne Margaret Cho.
Over the course of the past nearly two decades, Aline wrote the screenplay for a number of box office films, including the 1999 movie Three to Tango; the 2004 movie Laws of Attraction and the 2006 movies Drive and The Devil Wears Prada.
She followed those up with writing the 2008 movies 27 Dresses, 2010’s Morning Glory and the 2011 movies I Don’t Know How She Does It and We Bought a Zoo. In 2014, she wrote the screenplay for the new version of Annie.
But it has been her work on the quirky and award-winning TV series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend that has garnered her a great deal of attention. She is not only the creator of the series but also the executive producer, writer and director.
She is currently in pre-production of the 2018 box office movie Cruella that will be a live-action feature film that will follow the evil exploits of Cruella de Vil, the villain from the Disney film 101 Dalmatians that is set to star Emma Stone.
She also recently signed a two-year deal with CBS Television Studios and has a pilot known as Big Men being considered for pick-up.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will return to The CW with new episodes starting on Friday, January 5 at 8/7c.
