Women Behind the Scenes Spotlight: Misha Green
Today’s Women Behind the Scenes spotlight is shone on Producer, Writer and Series Creator Misha Green.
Misha has always been a storyteller. She shared in an interview that, “It started when I was young. I got a dollhouse when I was six, and my sister would always say, ‘You realize you’re just talking to yourself. What are you doing?’ That kind of opened up this creative need to tell stories.”
She went on to attend New York University before moving to Hollywood to start her writing career. Her first script landed on “The Blacklist” [no, not the TV series] – but the service that connects screenplays to producers, studio executives and directors.
Thanks to The Blacklist, Misha landed work in the writer’s room for the FX drama Sons of Anarchy and the original 2009 series Heroes. That is where she met fellow writer Joe Pokaski (more on him shortly).
She then worked as a story editor and writer on Spartacus: Gods of the Arena in 2011 and then did the same work on Spartacus: War of the Damned the following season. Her next project came as a co-producer and writer on the Syfy series Helix in 2014.
But it’s her latest project, the WGN America period piece drama Underground – which she co-created with Joe Pokaski (from her days on Heroes) that has garnered her the most attention. She and Pokaski wear many hats on this production: creator, executive producer and writer.
You can watch the final three episodes of Underground, including the season finale on WGN America on Wednesday nights at 10/9c.
