The Vampire Diaries: The Next Time I Hurt Someone It Could Be You {Recap}
Ho, Ho, Ho it’s the Holiday episode! Prepare yourself for the mixture of Christmas Carols and murder, so break out your egg nog and holiday cheer and let’s dig in.
It’s Christmas Eve and Stefan’s last day of freedom before he begins his deal with Kade. Stefan decided to go through with Caroline’s Christmas eve dinner to enjoy his last day. It was going to be a great family affair, Ric and the twins came but Ric had no plans of staying long because he thought he killed Damon, until Damon showed up with Sybil. Surprise!! Damon convinced Stefan to get some family ornaments from upstairs, and Damon staked Stefan with a star ornament. Caroline found Stefan and thought he was dead, but Damon said boss man Kade requested a meeting and he would be back shortly.
Meanwhile downstairs, Matt and his father, Sybil and Ric are all gathered around the tree (an awkward bunch for Christmas dinner is you ask me). Damon announces that his gift is that he’s going to give someone there a one way ticket to hell by killing them today. Ho, ho, holy crap Damon is going to spoil another family function. Grrr…when will the days of the Damon we love to hate return? Now I just hate him. There is a big difference.
Caroline warned Bonnie and Enzo not to come over because Sybil was there and she didn’t want Enzo anywhere near her. So they went to find the ringing fork for their defense. They found Seline and the fork. Seline told them a story about Stefan as we saw it play out with Kade. While Stefan had his meeting with Kade, he showed him that on Christmas eve in the early 1900’s he killed a family on a campground. Stefan didn’t remember that and we see that it was because he encountered a woman who could see into his mind and spared him the memory, and his life. That woman was Seline and at that moment Kade became interested in Stefan. Seline told Bonnie and Enzo that she spared him because in his mind she didn’t see evil, she saw an innocent man with anguish who was turned into a monster. Seline gave them the ringing fork as a first step toward redemption because she knows that’s her only saving grace since Sybil sold her out to Kade.
Caroline gave Damon Elena’s necklace as a Christmas gift but he didn’t open it until he left the party with Sybil. Once he looked at it, memories of Elena flooded his mind. Then he put the necklace on Sybil and I was shocked! I thought there is no way this is how it’s going down. He leaned in to kiss her but ripped her heart out instead. Damn! Then he took the necklace back and left Sybil’s heart and body on a bench. Could this be the first sign of the Damon we all love to hate? I hope so!
Stefan made a deal with Kade to serve him as ripper Stefan for one year and then his time would be done. Kade doesn’t think he will want to leave after one year so he agreed. When Stefan woke from his dream-like meeting with Kade, all he wanted to do was kiss Caroline under the mistletoe. Awww! We did get one sweet moment amongst the crazy.
We end with the Salvatore Brothers back on the road driving into the night and we see Stefan slowly turn off that humanity switch. Damon looks at him and says “Merry Christmas Brother.” Buckle up because here we go! Now we just have to wait until January 13th to see what happens!
Favorite Line: Sybil to Stefan, “Put Away your umbrella Stefan. I don’t need your shade. A simple thank you will suffice.” Aww snap!
