PITCH: September Changes Everything {Recap}
Pitch tackled (well, ran threw to keep it in baseball terms) the biggest elephant in the room of the show: Ginny and Mike’s chemistry.
After the Padres management has made it clear that Mike Lawson (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) is no longer as young (or as productive) as their younger new catcher, Levan. Charlie Graham (Kevin Connolly), a more math based owner when it comes to understanding and analyzing baseball, thinks that Mike is a lost cause, even as Oscar (Mark Consuelos) wants to keep Mike’s experience and leadership can steer the team in the right direction.
While the trade talks run rampant through MLB – and sports radio – Ginny starts to face the reality of what her Padres experience could be without Mike. She tries to brush aside the idea, while the team focuses on September call-ups, but as she also deals with Noah Casey (guest star Tyler Hilton), who is using his business to capture Ginny for a stop-motion game.
She does give into his suggesting a date before she goes to meet Mike where they share memories and almost almost kiss in a moment that I’ve been needing for weeks now. They are close – and after years of watching baseball I know that pitchers and catchers have great relationships – but with Mike’s sort of confession last week, this almost kiss was both enough and not nearly enough.
However, that isn’t all of the drama in Ginny’s life. Her brother borrowed money from her for his restaurant with her name, and Evelyn (Meagan Holder) goes in on the restaurant with some of she and Blip’s money. Amelia (Ali Larter) is cautious of this investment and by the end, Evelyn seems more concerned than she was at the start.
There are plenty of balls in the air, some of which are bound to be out of the park in next week’s finale, but some are equally likely to run foul or turn into a costly error.
Pitch airs Thursdays at 9PM/8PM Central on Fox.
