TIMELESS: Moving Forward {Recap}

Timeless launched into the Space Race and did its own acts of moving the narrative forward.

While the team goes to chase Garcia Flynn (Goran Visnijc) back to the Apollo 11 landing, there are three huge steps forward in the lives of people we care about.

Flynn

Even though Flynn has some motive in potentially derailing the Space Race towards the Russians, it seems that his real purpose in going back to 1969 is to save his half-brother from a bee sting.

It just so happens that his mother was a secretary – and later an engineer – for one of the biggest defense contractors in the US.

Maria, Flynn’s mom, features as a distraction to Wyatt (Matt Lanter), who follows Flynn and Maria rather than staying at NASA with Lucy and Rufus.

Women’s Rights

1969 is a rough year for women, and as such, the only clearance Lucy (Abigail Spencer) can manage is for a girl in the typing pool. That means that half the episode she is belittled by actual rocket scientists, and just before she helps to save the Apollo 11 mission, one in particular tries to demean her for not bringing him coffee.

Hopefully the other women near by when she lays into this guy can use it to get women more than they had in the 1970s.

Katherine Johnson

The “new” hero of the Apollo 11 mission – saving the base from a computer virus is Katherine Johnson, an African-American woman who is one of the US’s unsung heroes previously.

She manages to sort out how to override the virus’ power in a mainframe that holds two megabytes of data with Rufus’ help (and Lucy, too).

In order to make sure Johnson gets the credit she deserves, Rufus (Malcolm Barnett) must kill a man to keep the correct computer program running.

When the team returns back to our new 2016, Lucy rightly asks how Flynn can manage to save his half-brother but she and Wyatt aren’t able to get their sister and wife back. Good question.

Too bad I’m not sure when we’ll get that answer.
