LUCIFER ‘Lady Parts’ Roundtable: iPhones, Cats & Exploding Ovaries

Truly no one has enjoyed their new smartphone phone more than Luci! What did you think of his gadget fascination?

Mynda: I’m actually jealous. Siri UNDERSTANDS Lucifer. Clearly she has accent preferences!
Melissa: That whole bit was so much fun! I find it a bit of a stretch to believe he hasn’t had a smartphone before now, but I’m so glad we got to see him playing with his new gadget. Douche Cam! LMAO
Lisa: I love that that he said Face chat with Maze! Lol He seriously cracks me up.
Cay: Agree with Mel, but still, who doesn’t like to play with a new top-of-the-line gadget? Luci sometimes has a childish sense of wonder about the world (ok, frequently about things that aren’t exactly on the up-and-up) that is very appealing. Ok, there are a LOT of things about Luci/Tom Ellis that are appealing…
Karen: LOVED it! It’s rare that we see him enthralled with something “new” about the human world. It was almost innocent. Adorable and charming.

What trickery is this? Luci doesn’t like cats? This may be a deal breaker. What say you?

Mynda: I feel Lucifer is simply jealous. No one does superiority better than a cat!
Melissa: He was watching cat videos on his phone outside the roving sex party; I think the Internet might change his mind.
Lisa: Yeah, the cat videos will change anyone’s mind. He’ll probably have a pet kitty by next season.
Cay: Fits with the character – [house] cats aren’t sexy or exciting…and exactly the opposite of what would turn Luci on would be Chloe at home by herself with a bunch of cats. (What can I say, I’m a dog/bird/horse person!)
Karen: There’s a bit of a Sandman reference here I think. In the Sandman continuity, which is also the Lucifer continuity, cats ruled the earth before humans did. He probably hated that. Although I agree, cats don’t really follow, they do what they want. He hates that too.

The two straightest characters, Chloe and Amenadiel,  finally let their hair down. Who partied better, the ladies or the men?

Mynda: The ladies win. Mazikeen’s  bottle cap removal method and skank defense put them over the top!
Melissa: The ladies shared deep secrets (“I was a phone sex operator,” “I used to steal cars”), sang karaoke, and got into a bar fight. They win. Also, Amenadiel is a lightweight.
Lisa: The ladies rocked it out! If I could only be a badass like Maze and pop off a bottle cap like that! Although, I will say Amenadiel’s dancing skills may have been the funniest thing I’ve seen this season. When Luci said, “The white man’s overbite! That’s where I draw the line!” I literally cried from laughing so hard. Classic!
Cay: I love it when Maze says inappropriate/crazy things (like the blood pact, being a demon, etc) and everyone just shrugs them off. Reminds me of John Cusick’s character in Grosse Point Blank when he goes to his high school reunion as an assassin. “So, what do you do for a living?” “I kill people.” “How nice…” LOL
Karen: Oh please. Ladies win hands down. The minute Amenadiel bit his lip while dancing it was OH-VER.

Who would have imagined! Chloe and Maze are going to be roomies. Thoughts?

Mynda: One word. Amazing!
Melissa: Please let us see their home life with Trixie. Please please please please.
Lisa: Best living situation ever. I agree with Mel. Please show them with Trixie!
Cay: I sense conflict a-coming! I also worry for Trixie – not sure Maze is the best role model. Bad enough Luci is always trying to corrupt her. But at least Maze doesn’t want to kill Chloe anymore, that’s at least something, right?
Karen: This can only be good… for us. It’ll be a study in humanity for Maze, plus she LOVES Trixie, and Chloe sorely needs some loosening up. Of course, with the cliffhanger, we’ll see where it goes. BAD LUCIFER!! He needs to learn how to friend. amirite?

What are your thoughts on the season so far?

Mynda: I am really enjoying how the characters are coming together in organic ways that make sense. Hat’s off to the writers for their creativity and success in keeping the zingers fresh!
Melissa: This was my favorite episode of the season. Putting the women together for a night out was brilliant. Ella fits in seamlessly, yeah? I loved her, “I’m Ella, by the way. We’ll just skip the small talk.” And putting Lucifer, Amenadiel, and Dan together for an undercover mission…more, please! Our one scene with Charlotte was also amazing. That said, I feel like this was a little break from the overarcing story we’re dealing with this season. We got to touch base with everyone, have some laughs, see a different side of people, then get slammed right back into reality with that crash at the end. Dun dun dunnnn
Lisa: I am really enjoying this season. I like that they brought Mama back from hell and I really love the character interactions. The only way I’d like this season better is if they had more Trixie (and if Michael Ealy was a guest star. I’m just saying…he’s my fave 😊 )
Melissa: Um, if they add Michael Ealy to this show, my ovaries might explode. TMI. Don’t care.
Mynda: *Snert!* Michael Ealy and exploding ovaries! There goes our lady parts!
Cay: I wonder how long Dr Linda can continue to ignore the angels and demons in her life. She’s a very smart woman, how long can she really delude herself? I love this set-up this season with her around more, interacting with everyone, but at some point it is going to be harder to suspend MY disbelief about HER denial. As for the rest, I’m getting a bit annoyed with Chloe, love Charlotte as a domestic fish-out-of-water, and am intrigued to see how far Amenadiel falls before he gets his shit back together.
Karen: I love this show. I feel like the actors have ramped it up ten notches from last year – all of them. DB Woodside is K.I.L.L.I.N.G I.T., Tom Ellis has already been a balladeer once, Maze & Dr. Linda? Priceless. Tricia Helfer is amazing as Mum – and now Uriel is on his way… I can’t wait to see where the chips are going to fall.
