4 Delightful Observations from The Good Place ‘What We Owe Each Other’
This week’s The Good Place was once again a weirdly, wonderful adventure. It is my opinion the series is a comedy masquerading as a life lesson for adults. Whatever the case, I am completely enjoying this new series on NBC.
1. Normal is a setting on a dryer.
I love Michael’s obsession with weird objects and the fact the isn’t afraid to embrace that facet of himself. He unapologetically lets his freak flag fly. Do you have a favorite from him?
Mynda: Did Anyone else notice his paperclip bracelet? It was adorable!
Melissa: The tape dispenser, displayed so majestically, made me giggle.
Roz: I’m a sucker for those weird, plastic lips. They just remind me of being silly as a kid, and I’m sort of imagining Michael wearing them and not knowing what to do with them.
2. Not working sometimes really does help you work harder.
What was your favorite activity Michael and Eleanor took part in and why?
Mynda: The claw machine by far! I personally wasted ten bucks on one of those games trying to win one of those “ugly yellow toddlers.” Michael is my hero because he actually won one!
Melissa: Karaoke! I once spent a delightful evening in Japan singing the words displayed against pictures, not at all related to the song, for no other reason than to have fun with friends.
Roz: I was so close to wanting a “Are you having fun yet?” joke for Party Down, but I think my favorite was the Skee Ball! But bowling was second.
3. Hoodie retreating is a real thing.
Michael knows a universal truth. Sometimes the best you can do is retreat into your hoodie of sadness and regroup. What did you think about that scene?
Mynda: I totally get Michael’s despair when a problem just can’t seem to be solved. Eleanor surprised me once again when she hung in with him like a champ.
Melissa: It was a bit childish, but sometimes we just need a break from adulting. I did get a kick out of his Friends season 8 reference. 😀
Roz: Adulting is hard, Mel. I get what Michael wants to do for himself and the neighborhood, but it also reminds me of some kids who can’t handle the world because they have to follow a rule.
4. Mistakes may not always be mistakes.
Tahani and Chidi share a lot in common. Are they each others actual soul mate? What do you think of their interactions together?
Mynda: Maybe that’s the REAL problem in Michael’s neighborhood, inappropriately paired soul mates.
Melissa: Oooh, interesting. Maybe that’s why the “mistakes” were put there, to bring the true soul mates together? I do think some sparks are starting to fly between Tahani and Chidi, and they certainly make more sense than with Jianyu and Eleanor.
Roz: I like Chidi and Tahani together at that cafe, but I think there’s still something about them that isn’t perfect as Michael probably imagines all the other soul mates to do. Chidi still seems selfless here, whereas I think Tahani is more self-centered to compensate for what happened before.
The Good Place is a series after my own heart. I love the quirky lines, the awkwardness and it’s love of frozen yogurt. Tune in Thursdays at 8:30 pm each week as we (@nicegirlstv & @PxlWvr) live tweet the show!
