TIMELESS: Three Big Questions from “The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln” {Recap}
Timeless continues to make me question everything I’ve learned in every other show or movie about time travel. That’s not a bad thing, in the least, but it does posit many questions after watching another episode.
This week, the team has to travel to 1865 because Flynn (Goran Visnjic) has a plan to interfere with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Lucy (Abigail Spenser), Wyatt (Matt Lanter) and Rufus (Malcolm Barnett) face off against Flynn’s men and the conspirators working with John Wilkes Booth, in some attempt to change Flynn’s let unknown plan.
And that plan is one of the three biggest questions from the episode:
What is going on with Flynn?
There’s every indication so far that Flynn is doing something to get back at a group called Rittenhouse, but there’s been no indication of what the group is up to. Connor Mason is working with them as well, if Rufus’ job to spy on Lucy and Wyatt is true. But, for what purpose? Flynn says he’s a righteous man getting back at Rittenhouse, but when he’s attempting to change such high-profile events, and without knowing more about Rittenhouse, who’s the biggest bad guy?
Do you involve yourself with historic figures?
Lucy catches the eye of Robert Lincoln, and I’m guessing if she and the team stayed longer than a day and a half, he’d have been well on the way to asking for her hand in marriage. How much do we want to see all of these historic figures falling for the team? Wyatt had his moment last week with Kate Drummond last week. The show has no problem forcing the team to interact with figures who hold a wide range of importance in the narrative, but is that just a ploy to work the team into the problem more than it needs to be? Did we need a Juliet Shakeman High School?
Who Should We Fear?
As I said earlier, who’s the big bad? Rittenhouse or Flynn? Conflicting stories are fine and good to establish tension, but in the end the audience needs an answer.
Timeless airs Mondays at 10PM/9PM Central on NBC.
