My Top 10 Choices for September TV
The 2016-2017 TV season will be starting in about three weeks and there will be a lot of programming options on the major networks in September whether it is returning dramas, new dramas, made-for-TV movies and/or limited or event series.
This time around I have decided to highlight my top 10 choices of what to watch in September.
They appear in random order below:
Blindspot – The second season of the NBC hit series will return on September 14 at 10 PM, picking up three months after the events of the finale. Among the reveals that will be made in the sophomore season is Jane’s real name and who is really is. New additions to the show will include Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife), Luke Mitchell (The Tomorrow People and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) and Michelle Hurd (The Glades).
Designated Survivor – The new ABC drama will debut on September 21 at 10 PM. Kiefer Sutherland will star as Tom Kirkman, a lower-level cabinet member who unexpectedly becomes President after a devastating attack on Washington. The cast will include Natascha McElhone (Californication), Maggie Q (Nikita), Italia Ricci (Chasing Life and Supergirl), Adan Canto (The Following), Kal Penn (Deadbeat and House), LaMonica Garrett (The Last Ship) and Tanner Buchanan (The Fosters).
Harley and the Davidsons – This Discovery Channel will air this mini-series that charts the birth of the iconic bike during a time of great social and technological change at the turn of the 20th century from September 5 through September 7. It will air as three two-hour installments over three nights at 9 PM. The cast includes Dougray Scott (Ever After), Jessica Camacho (Queen of the South), Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), Wilson Bethel (Hart of Dixie) and Gabriel Luna (Matador).
Seeds of Love – As part of the Hallmark Channel’s nearly year-round string of movies – this time under the moniker of Fall Harvest – Ashley Williams and Trevor Donovan will star in as Aimie Roarke and Kyle Sorensen respectively. Aimie is always up for a cause, whether it’s helping a local animal shelter or hosting a bake sale for the Fire Department. When the town’s beloved oak tree is set to be cut down, she takes it upon herself try and save it. When the Mayor hires Kyle, a handsome new landscaper to cut it down, she decides the only way to save the tree is to chain herself to it. As Kyle attempts to out wait her, the two start to spend more time together, they find the old tree brings them both more than they could have imagined in life and love. The telepic will debut on September 24 at 9 PM with veteran actress Marilu Henner co-starring.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – The series will return for its fourth season, hopefully answering what is going on with Daisy, who went rogue at the end of last season not to mention explaining what happened to cause Phil Coulson to no longer be the Director of SHIELD. Actor Gabriel Luna (Matador) will appear as Ghost Rider and actor Jason O’Mara (Terra Nova, Life on Mars and Complications) will be the new Director. It will be back on ABC on September 20 at 10 PM.
Poldark – The much-buzzed about period piece will return to PBS on September 25 with a two-hour second season premiere at 8 PM with Aidan Turner returning as lead character Ross Poldark, Eleanor Tomlinson back as Ross’s wife Demelza and Heida Reed as Ross’s former love Elizabeth. Among the spoilers released for the new season Ross will go on trial for murder, theft and inciting a riot; Demelza will have another child, new characters will be introduced and Ross and Francis (Kyle Soller) join forces to start a new mine. The series will then run from Sunday, October 2 through Sunday, November 27 at 9 PM.
Marvel’s Luke Cage – The series will debut on Netflix on September 29, focusing on Luke Cage (Mike Colter from Marvel’s Jessica Jones and The Good Wife), a man who gained super strength and unbreakable skin in a sabotaged experiment. He becomes a fugitive attempting to rebuild his life in Harlem and soon confronts his past and fights a battle for the heart of his city. The cast includes vetertan actress Alfre Woodard, Mahershala Ali (The 4400 and House of Cards), Rosario Dawson (Daredevil), Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy), Frank Whaley (Ray Donovan and Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman)
The Blacklist – The NBC drama will be back for its fourth season on September 22 at 10 PM and it will hopefully answer the question of whether Alexander Kirk is really Elizabeth Keen’s father and what will Raymond Reddington do to track down Elizabeth.
This Is Us – This new series will debut on NBC on September 20 at 10 PM. It follows a unique ensemble whose paths cross and their life stories intertwine in curious ways. We find several of them share the same birthday, and so much more than anyone would expect. The cast includes Mandy Moore (A Walk to Remember), Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes), Sterling K. Brown (Army Wives and The People V. O.J. Simpson) and Justin Hartley (Smallville).
Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Lost Without You – The latest in the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries series of movies will debut on September 25 at 9 PM. A battered package turns up in a prop mailbox on the set of a Denver-based commercial, prompting Oliver O’ Toole (Eric Mabius), strait-laced leader of a team of postal detectives, to open an investigation to track down its intended recipient. Working closely with technophile Shane McInerney (Kristin Booth), free-spirited “girl next door” Rita Haywith (Crystal Lowe) and research expert Norman Dorman (Geoff Gustafson), Oliver learns that the package contains a bucket list, apparently meant to reach someone nearing life’s end. But before Oliver can immerse himself in the investigation, Shane – who shares a blossoming romance with Oliver – convinces him to take an uncharacteristic break from his work and join his father, Joe, on a rustic camping excursion. Meanwhile, Norman and Rita embark on an out-of-state road trip, attempting to deliver the lost package to its rightful destination.
