August TV Calendar
The following list provides the dates of the returning cable network dramas as well as new cable network and streaming dramas as well as made-for-TV movies that will air during August:
August 6 – The Hallmark Channel movie My Summer Prince will debut at 9 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Mandy Cooper (Taylor Cole) is a young executive assistant aspiring to become a PR executive. She gets an opportunity to develop her skills in Greenbriar, Idaho. In that small town, Prince Colin of Edgemere, a handsome British monarch (Jaxon Turner) with a history of scandalous behavior, is arrested for defacing a landmark while making a public appearance. Things get complicated after Mandy sets out to repair Colin’s image, and the young publicist wonders if she can save her own reputation and still have a chance at summer love. The cast includes Lauren Holly (NCIS and Motive), Vanessa Angel (the TV series Weird Science) and Marina Sirtis (NCIS and Star Trek: The Next Generation)
August 7 – The PBS three-part mini-series Inspector Lewis, now in its 8th season, will premiere at 9 PM
Mini-Series Synopsis: Kevin Whately stars as Inspector Lewis, the former working-class foil to the erudite Detective Inspector Morse. Together with his cool, cerebral partner Detective Sergeant Hathaway (Laurence Fox), Lewis tackles murder and mayhem in the seemingly-perfect academic haven of Oxford.
August 12 – The new Netflix series The Get Down will debut online
Show Synopsis: The series follow a rag-tag crew of South Bronx teenagers in a broken down and beaten up, violent New York City at the brink of bankruptcy, which gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco – a story told through the lives and music of the South Bronx kids who changed the city, and the world forever. The cast includes relative newcomers Justice Smith, Herizen Guardiola, Shameik Moore, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and T.J. Brown, Jr. as well as Skylan Brooks (Southpaw), Jimmy Smits and Giancarlo Esposito
August 13 – The new movie Summer in the City will debut on the Hallmark Channel at 9 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: When a small town woman with Midwestern charm is given a big promotion managing a store in the Big Apple, she tries to adopt a big city personality and it leads to disastrous results. Realizing it’s better to be true to herself, she lets her personality shine and it becomes the secret to her success in work and in love. The film stars Julianna Guill (Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce), Marc Bendavid (Dark Matter), Vivica A. Fox and Marla Sokoloff.
August 14 – The new Hallmark Channel series Chesapeake Shores will debut at 9PM
Show Synopsis: Based on the best-selling books by Sherryl Woods, this multi-generational family drama focuses on Abby O’Brien (Meghan Ory from Once Upon a Time), a high-powered career woman, divorcee and mother to twin daughters, who makes a trip from New York City to her hometown of Chesapeake Shores. Her visit home brings Abby face to face with her past, including her high school sweetheart Trace (Jesse Metcalfe from Dallas), her uncompromising father Mick (Treat Williams from Everwood) and her esteemed grandmother Nell (Diane Ladd from Wild At Heart). Abby realizes the toll her career has taken on her ability to be a hands-on mother to her daughters, and considers a permanent move to Chesapeake Shores. The show will also star Barbara Niven (Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove).
August 20 – The Hallmark Channel made-for-TV movie Summer Love will debut at 9 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: When a widowed suburban mom, who’s recently gone back to school, takes an internship and enters the fast-paced tech world of millionaire “app-trepreneurs,” she discovers that although life seems to be a lot more digital, love needs to be a lot more real. The cast includes Rachael Leigh Cook (Perception), Lucas Bryant (Haven) and Travis Milne (Rookie Blue).
August 21 – The AMC zombie-series Fear the Walking Dead will premiere at 9 PM
August 21 – The Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie JL Family Ranch will debut at 9 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: J.L. is an old-fashioned, conservative cowboy who owns a large ranch in a small Texas town and is the patriarch of a sizeable family that all take shelter under his roof. He has to battle the outside forces of the modern world that is rapidly creeping into his expanding town in order to maintain possession of his treasured ranch and to keep his family together. The film stars veteran actors Jon Voight, James Caan, Melanie Griffith as well as Teri Polo (The Fosters), Grant Bowler (Defiance) and Steven Bauer (Ray Donovan).
August 23 – The AMC 1980’s-themed series Halt and Catch Fire returns with a two-hour premiere at 9 PM
NOTE: The show will then move to 10 PM next week.
August 27 – The made-for-TV movie Summer of Dreams will debut on the Hallmark Channel at 9 PM
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: Fading pop star Debbie Taylor is on the verge of losing everything – including her freedom – when she runs away to suburban Ohio where she finds her way into teaching music to a talented group of misfit kids. As she lays low and taps into the kids’ talents in an attempt to become relevant again, she begins to realize that fame isn’t everything. The film stars 80’s pop star-turned-actress Debbie Gibson and Robert Gant (Queer As Folk).
August 28 – The Strain will air its season premiere on FX at 10 PM
