My 5 Biggest Highlights of COMIC CON 2016

By  |

This year’s Comic Con has come to an end, and after attending the annual fete for 15 years (nearly all in a row), it’s become almost old hat for me. The four and ½ days of the convention always provides very interesting sights and lots and lots of cool and fun panels featuring stars from the big and small screen, acclaimed authors and so much more.

The 2016 convention, for me, included panels for a lot of television dramas and featured several screenings of pilots. Here is my rundown of the biggest highlights of the entire convention:

Fallling Water

Falling Water – This unique supernatural drama comes from (among others) executive producer Gale Ann Hurd and will air on the USA Network this fall. It is, in my opinion, the most unusual pilot that I saw during Comic Con 2016. The show isn’t easy to describe but the basic plot centers on three strangers who realize they are dreaming part of the same dream; and as they delve deeper into the meaning behind their connection to each other, they realize that the implications are much larger than their personal fates, and the future of the world lies in their hands. And that’s the easier plot description!

Dark Matter

Dark Matter – The cast members of this Syfy series are extremely entertaining and so very different from their characters, making for a fun-filled panel on the first day of the convention. Melissa O’Neil (who plays Two) freely admitted she is a big nerd and expounded on her obsession with the human brain and Alex Mallari, Jr. always seems to have a smile on his face and was nearly jumping out of skin with excitement over being at the convention. If you haven’t taken the chance to watch this show – now in its second season – make sure you do because it’s one of the most under-appreciated shows on TV right now.

Christopher Larkin

Christopher Larkin – He is one of the ensemble cast of The CW post-apocalyptic series The 100; and after getting a chance to interview him on the second day of the con, I discovered he is not only a well-spoken but also very intelligent guy. I hope that when the show’s third season returns to the network – more than likely during mid-season – that Christopher’s character Monty Green gets a lot more screen time because he deserves it!

Tap Dancing with the Stars of The Flash and the Singing Styles of the Cast of Arrow – During the DC Comics portion of panels in Ballroom 20 on the third day of the convention, actors Grant Gustin and Jesse L. Martin showed off their tap dancing skills at the end of their panel and then the cast of Arrow regaled the audience with their singing styles (thank you to the Tony-winning Broadway play Hamilton) at the conclusion of theirs. It was a little something unexpected from each of the cast (especially Arrow – save John Barrowman, of course), but it sure brought the house down. You can see both of those moments below:

A Decent Proposal – During the Supernatural panel in Hall H on the final day of the convention, everyone in that enormously cavernous room were in for a surprise when a man in the audience Q&A line had a question for his girlfriend – yep, you guessed it – the man proposed to his girlfriend in front of the cast and creatives minds behind the show as well as a packed room of 6,500 – and she, of course, said yes! It was quite a moment!! You can check out that moment below:

Needless to say, there was a great deal more going on during the convention, but those were the biggest moments for me. If you were at the event, what were your top moments?

See you all in 2017!
