LUCIFER Roundtable: Take Me Back to Hell
Lucifer ended it’s Season 1 run last night with a great episode. They also set some things up for next season – Lucifer’s Mom should be a fun and terrifying story!
Lucifer was accused of murder and with the help of Amenadiel was able to investigate the case. However, after finding no other way to clear Lucifer, Detective Douche turned himself in. Malcolm however did not go so gently into that good night. He put up quite the fight, killing a few more people and kidnapping Trixie, before Decker was able to put him down for good.
How great were the pairings tonight? Maze and Decker and Lucifer and Amenadiel. What did you think of their interactions?
Mynda: I love the clever way the writers pair up unlikely characters. It’s part of what makes the show so good. In fact, Clever is my go-to word for Lucifer!
Leah: I thought it was awesome. I didn’t think it good get any better than Dr. Linda and Maze being friends but this topped even though.
Melissa: I agree with Mynda, the writers continue to give us clever pairings and the cast is more than up to the challenge. Even Detective Douche is becoming less bland as he interacts with more people than Chloe
Lisa: I loved the interactions! Especially between the brothers. I really enjoyed seeing the two girls team up and kick ass. It was like they put their rivalry aside and teamed up for what was right and the result was pure gold! Maze & Decker could have their own spin-off cop show which would be hilarious.
Stacey: This episode was great. Everything I needed from the season finale. i thought it was great that Luci and Amenadiel paired up, especially after the events of last week. The pairing of Chloe and Maze for the season finale was perfect as well.
Lucifer’s selfless act brought him back. That’s got to be a first for him. What did you think of that scene?
Mynda: Did anyone else get vibes of Constantine?? I totally suspected this would be his way out of hell, however, Mommy Dearest escaping was a brilliant twisty! Again, THANK YOU Lucifer Writers! EVER CLEVER!
Leah: I thought having Lucifer’s dying words to be not only a prayer but a prayer for someone other than himself was brilliant.
Melissa: Oh Luci, you certainly have changed in just a few short months. It’s a credit to the writers that I wasn’t surprised with his choice – we’ve seen this change happening slowly since he met Chloe. It’s part of Lucifer’s character arc. Speaking of selfless acts, Maze using the feather to heal Amenadiel was sweet. Don’t tell her I said that.
Lisa: I was surprised by it. I thought it was great because everyone loves a Redemption story, even the devil. I knew they wouldn’t kill Luci off but for that Split Second when it looked like he was dying, I was screaming inside. I just wanted him to be ok and I’m so glad it worked out, because honestly if they put him back in Hell, the show wouldn’t be as entertaining as it is now.
Stacey: I gotta agree with everything Melissa said. This was the perfect end to his overall arc for the season. I also agree with Mel’s comments on Maze. Using the feather to save Amenadiel was perfect.
We’re you a little disappointed that Malcolm got shot before Lucifer could punish him or do you think enough of Malcolm’s shenanigans was enough?
Mynda: I was just happy Malcolm is gone. His smarmy, oily, dim-witted presence will NOT be missed!
Leah: I wanted Lucifer to do some damage before Malcolm ended up in hell, but I suppose eternity is hell is no picnic so…just a little let down over the end of Malcolm.
Melissa: No. I’m glad he’s gone and if anyone deserved to get revenge on Malcolm, wasn’t it Chloe? Despite Lucifer’s vendetta, CHLOE is the one Malcolm truly wronged.
Lisa: Honestly, I was just glad that his Shenanigans were over. I did not care in any way how he died, as long as he was put down. He will not be missed.
Stacey: No. I’m glad he’s done.
Favorite scene or line?
Mynda: I purr anytime Lucifer says “Dearie me.” I also loved the paper airplane scene with Malcom that had flavors of Deadpool. It was SO Luci! Honorable mention goes to the bobble-head scene!
Leah: The fight scene where Lucifer and Amenadiel teamed up was beautifully choreographed and filmed and the two of them teaming up was just awesome!
Melissa: That whole scene with Dr. Linda becoming increasingly exasperated with the Brothers Angelic was amazing. I also quite enjoyed Lucifer holding the bobblehead hostage.
Lisa: I love seeing Lucifer and Amenadiel do in counseling together. It was like watching couples counseling between those two. Their chemistry was great and I love scenes with them together. #Luciadiel Ha Ha!
Stacey: Oh man – I loved the scene with Dr. Linda. I loved the scene where he went back to hell. I thought that was such an awesome depiction.
Bonus:
Melissa: HOW HAS CHLOE NOT FIGURED IT OUT YET?!? She saw Lucifer die! And come back to life! This is willful ignorance on her part at this point.
So…who is Mum and why was she chained to Hell?
Leah: Chloe needs to get a clue next season because not only did Lucifer disappear from in front of her and a room full of cops he was shot and died in her presence.
For some reason it never occurred tome that Lucifer would have a Mom…the fact that she scares him doesn’t bode well.
Stacey: Mom?!?!? And maybe Chloe has a clue – we had no post shooting scene so we don’t know exactly what Chloe is thinking yet. I’ll be interested to see where their relationship is at the beginning of next season.
Also, ugh. Detective Douche redeemed himself.
Lisa: I just want to point out how incredibly cute Trixie is. I just want to squeeze her. That is all! I can’t wait for season 2.
LUCIFER will be back next season on FOX
