Rueben's Ramblings
Do You Remember: Eastwick
Back in 2009, ABC premiered a new supernatural series called Eastwick based on the John Updike novel “The Witches of Eastwick”, which – as many know – was adapted into a film back in 1987 that starred Jack Nicholson, Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer.
The small screen version that only lasted for one season starred Paul Gross (of Due South fame), Rebecca Romijn (of X-Men and The Librarians fame), Lindsay Price (formerly of the original Beverly Hills, 90210) and Jaime Ray Newman (who has since appeared in Eureka, Drop Dead Diva and Wicked City).
The series focused on Joanna Frankel (Price), Katherine “Kat” Gardener (Newman), and Roxanne “Roxie” Torcoletti (Romijn), who were three dissatisfied women living in the picturesque town of Eastwick, New England. Yearning for excitement in their lives, each of the women desperately made a wish for “something to change.” The following day, a furtive stranger named Darryl Van Horne (Gross) arrived and began courting each of the women in turn. Darryl eventually informed the women about their talents and encouraged them to explore their unique abilities. However, as the series progressed, the three unlikely friends began to worry about Darryl’s ultimate intentions.
Besides the memorable faces of the lead actors in this short-lived show, it was several of the new faces of the “B-cast” who have gone on to be very recognizable actors on the small and big screen.
Let’s take a look at those faces:
Jon Bernthal – Now known for his memorable role of Shane Walsh on The Walking Dead and soon to be seen as Frank Castle (aka The Punisher) on the second season of Daredevil, Jon appeared as Raymond Gardener, the lazy drunken husband of Kat.
Ashley Benson – Just before landing the role of Hanna Marin on Pretty Little Liars, Ashley appeared as Mia Torcoletti, the teenage daughter of Roxie.
Darren Criss – Before appearing as Blaine Anderson on Glee, Darren appeared in five episodes as Josh Burton, the boyfriend of Mia.
Jack Huston – He played Jamie Dalton in eight episodes and has gone on to appear in Boardwalk Empire as Richard Harrow, Young Ira in the box office film The Longest Ride and George Wickham in Pride, Prejudice and Zombies.
Eastwick aired 13 episodes on ABC from September 23, 2009 through February 14, 2010. Do you remember Eastwick?
