Rueben's Ramblings
The Stay Home and Read a Book Ball
For the last year or two, I have been volunteering at my local library here in Los Angeles (a terrific “small town” library similar to the one back home), helping out – for the most part – with their quarterly book sales.
For me this volunteering was an homage (if you will) to my time “working” as a library aide during high school and the five plus years I spent serving on the Board of Directors of my local library in my hometown in Pennsylvania.
During a recent meeting of the Friends of the Library (basically the volunteers who run the book sales and help out where and as they can at my local library), I learned that the Library Foundation of Los Angeles holds “The Stay Home and Read a Book Ball”. In fact, this will mark the 28th year of this annual event.
The NiceGirlsTV site, obviously, focuses on all things television, but I believe our staff will agree with me when I say that reading a good book is just as important to our lives as watching a good TV show.
Whether you live in Los Angeles or halfway around the world, I want to invite you to join “The Stay Home and Read a Book Ball,” which will be held on Sunday, March 6.
The “rules” are simple (the following is verbatim from the official booklet for the annual event):
WHERE: Swaying on a swing in the backyard, rocking in a chair on the patio, or lying on a blanket inside a pillow fort.
ATTIRE: Your favorite outfit, be it a motorcycle boots, a crown of flowers, a yellow suit, diamonds and pearls, or a tie-dyed shirt.
FOOD AND DRINK: A plate full of carbohydrates, tall glass of proteins, and lipids on the side.
GUESTS: Your next door neighbor, a best friend, or just shut the door and read to your heart’s content.
So, grab a good book on March 6 and join in on the 28th Annual “Stay Home and Read a Book Ball!”
