Nine Reasons to Watch Gotham
If you’re not watching Fox’s Gotham, well you should be. The crime-drama derived from the DC Comics Super-villains presents a never-before seen twist on the Batman legend. It follows the future commissioner Jim Gordon as a young cop, cleaning up the streets of Gotham while trying to remain true to his values and the law. Here are just a few reasons I think you should be tuning in.
1. Benjamin McKenzie as Jim Gordon. Need I go further? Well, if I must…
2. Strong female characters who give as good they get. For example, Jada Pinkett Smith as season one’s master villain Fish Mooney. She’ll be revisiting Gotham this half of the second season, no doubt seeking revenge. Also, Morena Baccarin as Leslie “Lee” Tompkins, the compelling, smart doctor who wins Jim Gordon’s heart.
3. Watching the young Camren Bicondova as Selena, a street-kid thief who has eyes and ears everywhere. Bicondova is fierce and demands your attention when she’s on screen. I’m excited to see her transformation into the Catwoman.
4. Romance, young love and crazy ex-girlfriends.
5. Bad boys that are easy on the eyes. (But aren’t they always?)
6. Despite the dark, gritty background, the show is really funny. For me, it’s the banter between new BFF’s Edward Nygma (the Riddler) and the Penguin. The scene when Lee catches Jim off-guard when she gives him a key to her place is also hilarious:
“Do you want a key to my place.” – Jim’s response
“Not even a little bit. Wait. Do you even have a place?” – Lee
7. Good overcomes evil, even if it be by less than conventional means.
8. You don’t need to be a fan of Batman or comics to enjoy the show as is.
9. See No. 1.
Gotham resumes Monday, February 29, so you have a week to catch up on seasons one and two. Challenge accepted? And, go!
Be sure to live tweet with me during the show. Then following Gotham, stick around for Lucifer, another Fox favorite among the Nice Girls.
