A Beginners Guide to The Expanse

The Expanse is a bold new series from Syfy based on the series of novels by James S. A. Corey. The first season will consist of ten episodes beginning on Monday December 14 at 10 pm. The rest of the series will air in its’ regular time slot on Tuesday’s at 10 pm beginning December 15.

Set in the 23rd Century in a now colonized Solar System. There are three main factions: Earthers, Belters and Martians each scrabbling for survival and on the brink of war.

Anyone feeling the Blade Runner vibes? I love the look and feel of The Expanse because it gives me the warm and fuzzies from such an iconic movie.

Life in Space has some serious pro’s and cons!

CONS:

• Growing up in low gravity has some SERIOUS side effects; it’s children are TALL! The long, lithe Belters sleekness would leave today’s fashion models gnashing their teeth in anguish and envy!

• Air and Water are more valuable than gold.

• You think two parents are bad? How about eight of them? Due to Earth’s booming 30 billion population children are born from a genetic collective pooled from over a half dozen people!

• Three Words. Rats. In. Space.

• Loosing a limb is common in Ice Mining. No worries! You can just grow a new one!

• Three hundred years of evolution and addictions are still going strong. Yay!

PROS!

• Zero Gravity Sex is EPIC!

• The Southern Drawl is alive and well! Yee-haw! This Extreme Southern Speaker is pleased!

• Did I mention Zero Gravity Sex?

Main Characters:

The Detective: Joe Miller (Thomas Jane) who is a Belter and hired to find a missing heiress Julie Mao.

The Officer: Jim Holden ( Steven Strait) a man who is running from the weight of his past and gets drug into a conspiracy beyond imagination with the discovery of an abandoned ship.

The Politician: Earther, Christen Avasarala ( Shoreh Aghdashloo) who will stop at nothing to protect Earth.

Alex Kamal (Cas Anvar), pilot with an inexplicable Texas drawl.
Naomi Nagata ( Dominique Tipper), engineer with a shady past of her own.
Amos Burton ( Wes Chatham), mechanic with a taste for violence.
Shed Garvy (Paulo Costanzo), medical technician and ships resident drug dealer.

Ceres Station is in the asteroid belt and controlled by the UN.
The Canterbury is an ice hauler that harvests ice from the moons of Saturn
