When Is It Time To Say Goodbye To Your Favorite Show
As anyone who watches television knows, TV shows come and go. Sometimes they last for many, many seasons while others crash and burn within one season, if they even last an entire season for that matter. Many other TV shows fall somewhere in between.
There are a number of TV shows – a few of which are among my favorites in fact – that have been on the air for a number of seasons now (if not many, many seasons) that are on that infamous bubble that is talked about every season.
Bubble shows, in short, are the programs that are in line for cancellation by their home networks. Regardless of how popular these shows are with their audiences, the threat is very real. The factors in determining cancellation are numerous, but many times the decision is made due to a combination of shrinking ratings, low foreign distribution interest and/or creative differences behind the scenes.
Some of the shows that are currently on the bubble include the following:
Castle – The former top ABC drama has suffered a bit this season not only in ratings but also in its overall storyline, especially where its title character and his wife are concerned. In fact, fans have been quite vocal about their dislike for the separation of the couple given all they went through in order to get them together and eventually married.
The Vampire Diaries and The Originals – The CW series and its spin-off will be relegated to the dreaded Friday night line-up from their once cushy Thursday night timeslots in January. And as anyone who has watched the shows know, the ratings are dwindling, the storylines are becoming quite a bit muddied and the loss of lead Nina Dobrev really pushed a lot of fans away.
Person of Interest – This CBS series has quite a loyal following, but given the fact it has been held back to mid-season this TV year speaks volumes. There is that slim possibility that the show could rally when it returns in 2016, but that, sadly, could be a long shot for the once top tier series.
Sleepy Hollow – This FOX drama had an absurd premise, but its debut season show the show getting double digit ratings. Those ratings, however, plummeted in season two due to weak story-telling. While the show has attempted to rally in its third season, it’s perhaps too little too late.
Then there are the shows that have been on the air for what seems like forever that aren’t considered on the bubble, but should probably come to an end at some point if only their home networks would simply let them go. Among those shows, in my opinion, are Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on NBC, Supernatural on The CW, Grey’s Anatomy on ABC and Bones on FOX.
What TV shows do you think will come to an end when the 2015-2016 TV season comes to an end? Please share your thoughts in our comments section below.
