BLINDSPOT Round Table: Split the Law
Okay – if you are playing along at home you know the titles of the episodes are anagrams. So far we have:
1×01 “WOE HAS JOINED” = WHO IS JANE DOE
1×02 “A STRAY HOWL” = TAYLOR SHAW
1×03 “EIGHT SLIM GRINS” = THE MISSING GIRL
1×04 “BONE MAY ROT” = OR MAYBE NOT
1×05: “SPLIT THE LAW” = WILL THE PAST
Tonight’s episode of BLINDSPOT found Jane and Weller tracking down a terrorist with a bomb while tangling with the Deputy Director of the CIA.
The Weller/Jane awkward family dinner was like the best first/blind date ever.
How great was that?
Roz: That family dinner was so awkward and I loved it for that reason. Weller’s sister was trying so hard to make it easy and it only made it worse for Jane/Taylor.
Liz: It was very awkward and way too soon. I could have done without it except that it triggered more of the memory of the night Taylor was taken. For that it served its purpose.
Leah: I loved it! It was way too much – and that is why it was so glorious.
Lisa: OMG AWKWARD!! Poor Jane! I thought that Kurt’s sister was coming on a little strong. The good thing that came from it, was that she did get a memory. Maybe they can have a super awkward Thanksgiving dinner and see if that sparks any memories! *:)
Cay: All I could think of is how even more awkward this all becomes if it turns out that Jane actually isn’t Taylor Shaw, which certainly seems possible judging by last week’s episode title (Bone May Rot = Or maybe not) and the reveal about her teeth. I like that Jane’s memories could be consistent with either Taylor or ? at this point.
How many more times can Jane’s tattoos foretell/link to something like this week’s crime before it seems completely implausible?
Roz: It’s starting to get implausible now, but I think that’s part of why I like show. Even if the show is grounded in real life, the situations are both possible and impossible help so I don’t freak out about the possibilities.
Liz: I don’t know, maybe I’m just that gullible, but if we look at the tattoos as breadcrumbs to a much bigger picture why should they become implausible at all? This week’s tattoo lead to a CIA black site, not a hostage situation.
Leah: I feel the timing of these incidents are a little crazy but I am too wrapped up in the general mystery to care. The writers put a lot of effort into making the story intriguing and they still have my attention.
Lisa: I don’t know, but I’m still all in. I feel like Jane’s tattoos are just pieces to the puzzle and we are all along for the ride until we finish that thing! I don’t know if it will ever seem implausible.
Cay: imagine the whole concept is going to just become more and more unbelievable, but if they do it well enough, most weeks we’ll be able to forget how insane the concept is! Seriously, how could one person have that much intel??
So we are supposed to believe the CIA allowed the FBI to work out a hostage situation in a building where they have a black site before they intervened?
Roz: Yeah, that “cooperation” doesn’t make sense, but I think the CIA deputy director is a creepy creep who creeps and I’d rather he not be around again.
Liz: I don’t think that the CIA/Carter thought that the hostage situation would lead to the discovery of the black site. The hostage situation was a rescue mission that the CIA didn’t anticipate. Otherwise they would have moved Dodi to another location. It was when the black site was discovered that the CIA came on the scene, so no, it didn’t look to me like the CIA allowed the FBI anything.
Leah: I thought the CIA would have their black site buildings under better surveillance, but we needed to have Carter meet the team so I suppose this was as good a way as any.
Lisa: Well it is TV. HA! But seriously, I don’t think Carter believed they would find the black site. He underestimated the FBI and definitely underestimated Jane.
Cay: It makes sense that the CIA has to be involved because of the level of intel, but the whole sending the FBI to the black site seems really dumb, unless it’s part of a larger charade within a charade – make them think there is a black site to distract from other stuff? It gets a bit confusing to think about at that point.
The Deputy Director of the CIA does his own dirty work? He was really going to shoot Jane himself?
Roz: I think the Deputy Director is capable of anything when it doesn’t go his way, including dealing with Jane
Liz: I believe it. He’s dirty. And he feels threatened by her. He’s obviously got a lot to lose.
Leah: Maybe I watch too much TV because I was pretty sure after you had the title of Director (Deputy or not) you farmed out that kind of thing.
Lisa: That man is evil! He seems like the type of person that has trust issues and the only way to ensure his dirty work is done is to do it himself.
Agent Zapata willing to feed Intel about Jane to the CIA was just one of the many cracks in the team this week. How much longer can the FBI team hold it together before they shatter?
Roz: Given that Reade already doesn’t trust Jane, and with Zapata feeding that info, I think it’s only a matter of time before the cards come down on the carefully constructed house.
Liz: I was surprised that it was Zapata that got in that car, I thought Reade would be the one. But in hindsight, of course Carter would tap the weakest link. With her gambling issues, that made her the weakest link. Zapata may have been the crack this week, but we also saw Mayfair closing ranks on the side of her team and that was pretty big.
Leah: I don’t see Weller taking Zapata’s betrayal very well – he is firmly Team Jane – so when it does come out and I think it will soon there is going to be some serious blow back.
Lisa: I was so shocked to see her get in the car with him! Money can make people do bad things. I just hope they keep it together for at least a few more episodes. I don’t want the focus to shift to the team, I like the focus being on Jane.
Cay: I sense a confrontation coming up soon – the team loyalty is looking a bit weak right now all around. Agent Reade still doesn’t like Jane/Taylor, Xapata is narcing to the CIA it’s going to explode soon when they all find out about the betrayals large and small
Weller should be convinced his Dad didn’t have anything to do with Taylor’s disappearance now. Why is he still so mad?
Roz: Weller’s Dad still might have done something so awful to Weller during or after the initial Taylor investigation that I think Weller’s always going to have issues.
Liz: There’s more to that story that we don’t know yet. It’s difficult to answer that right now. I think that now they’ve brought the dad physically into the picture, we’ll start to get more of that story.
Leah: I don’t expect Weller to run and sit on his Dad’s knee now that he thinking he has Taylor back but practically running out of the room when he sees his Dad seemed a little over the top.
Lisa: Well we really don’t know if he had something to do with her disappearance or not. We do know that he didn’t kill her. There is definitely more to that storyline than we know right now. Did you see the look on his face when he saw his Dad? Damn! That was intense. I can’t wait to find out more about that story.
Cay: There is clearly more to the Weller family issues than just Taylor’s disappearance. The evidence that he kidnapped Taylor seems to have been awfully weak based on what we know. I’m betting there was something else, potentially unrelated to Taylor, that made the case stronger – maybe some sort of abuse?
