What to Expect on TV in June

By  |

There are plenty of programming options that will be gracing the small screen next month with many returning dramas coming back for new seasons and just as many new dramas debuting on their respective networks.

Let’s take a look at some of the more interesting dramas for which I am looking forward to seeing:

The new ABC drama The Whispers will debut on June 1 at 10 PM. The series is focused on several kids in Washington, D.C., who have been talking about their imaginary friend; but what the parents don’t know is this friend is not as imaginary as they assume. And when the mysterious games they play turn dangerous, FBI child specialist Claire Bennigan is called in to investigate.

The cast includes Lily Rabe from American Horror Story, Barry Sloane from Revenge and Milo Ventimiglia from Heroes.

The new ABC Family drama Stitchers will debut on June 2 at 9 PM. The series follows Kirsten, a young woman recruited into a covert government agency to be ‘stitched’ into the minds of the recently deceased, using their memories to investigate murders and decipher mysteries that otherwise would have gone to the grave.

The cast includes relative newcomer Emma Ishta, Kyle Harris from The Carrie Diaries, Salli Richardson-Whitfield from Eureka and Allison Scagliotti from Warehouse 13.

Sense8 is the new drama, from the Wachowski siblings (the people behind The Matrix franchise), will debut on Netflix on June 5. This sci-fi thriller follows the story of eight strangers from different cultures and parts of the world, who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, suddenly find themselves mentally and emotionally connected – an evolutionary leap of technological origin.

Among the cast are Brian J. Smith from Stargate Universe, Freema Agyeman from Doctor Who, Aml Ameen from The Maze Runner, Naveen Andrews from Lost and Tuppence Middleton from Jupiter Ascending.

The new drama Dark Matter will debut on Syfy on June 12 at 10 PM. The crew of a derelict spaceship are awakened from stasis with no memories of who they are or how they got on board. Facing threats at every turn, they have to work together to survive a voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal and hidden secrets.

The cast features Melissa O’Neil from Broadway’s Les Miserables, Marc Bendavid from Bitten, Anthony Lemke from The Good Witch, Zoie Palmer from Lost Girl, Jodelle Ferdland from Cabin in the Woods, Roger Cross from The Strain, Continuum and Arrow and Alex Mallari Jr. from Robocop.

The new TNT drama Proof will debut on June 16 at 10 PM. Following the death of her teenage son, a divorce, and a rift with her daughter, Dr. Carolyn Tyler is persuaded by Ivan Turing, a tech inventor and billionaire with cancer, to investigate supernatural cases of reincarnation, near-death experiences, and hauntings, in hopes to find evidence that death is not final.

The cast features Jennifer Beals and Matthew Modine in the lead roles as well as Joe Morton from Scandal and Eureka, Callum Blue from Dead Like Me and Edi Gathegi from X-Men: First Class.

The new Syfy drama Killjoys will debut on June 19 at 10 PM. This drama follows a fun-loving, hard living trio of interplanetary bounty hunters sworn to remain impartial as they chase deadly warrants throughout the Quad, a distant system on the brink of a bloody, multi-planetary class war.

The cast stars Aaron Ashmore from Warehouse 13, Luke Macfarlane from Brothers & Sisters and Hannah John-Kamen from The Hour and Whitechapel.

The Astronaut Wives Club to debut on ABC on June 19 at 8 PM. Based on the book by Lily Koppel, this new series will focus on seven women who were key players behind some of the biggest events in American history. As America’s astronauts were launched on death-defying missions, the lives of their young wives were transformed, seemingly overnight, from military spouses to American royalty. As their celebrity rose, and tragedy began to touch their lives, they rallied together.

The large cast includes Dominique McElligott from Hell on Wheels, Yvonne Strahovski from Chuck, Odette Annable from House, Joanna Garcia-Swisher from Once Upon a Time, Erin Cummings from Spartacus, Azure Parsons from Salem, Sam Reid from the box office film Belle, Zoe Boyle from Downton Abbey, Desmond Harrington from Dexter, Bret Harrison from Reaper, Aaron McCusker from Shameless, Kenneth Mitchell from Jericho and Wilson Bethel from Hart of Dixie.

Lastly, AMC will debut the 8-part drama Humans on June 28 at 9 PM. The series follows a strained suburban family who, in the hope of transforming the way they live, purchases a refurbished Synth only to discover that sharing life with a machine has far-reaching and chilling consequences.

The series stars William Hurt and Colin Morgan from Merlin.

Among the returning shows that will be back for another season include Devious Maids, Royal Pains, Pretty Little Liars, The Fosters, Beauty and the Beast, Defiance, Rizzoli & Isles, The Last Ship, Suits, Graceland, Falling Skies and Teen Wolf.
