THE FLASH: “Rogue Air” {Recap}

By  |

Anytime an episode opens with an Evil Speech of Evil (TM Jon Rogers of Leverage fame), you know things are going to get bad very quickly. Case in point today, turns out that Eobard Thawne has been hanging out in the reactor and soon Barry, Cisco and Joe are going down to investigate (we won’t tell them how dumb an idea that is right now) until the point where Eobard and Barry gun off to talk to each other while Eobard also let out all of the metahumans in the lab to run rampant in STAR Labs.

At least when one metahuman escaped it allowed everyone to know that Eddie was hidden in the bottle of the lab. It also lets Iris see that Eddie was going to propose before he was kidnapped. But what will she do with that knowledge now that she knows he’s been lying to her about Barry?

Is it a great idea for Barry and friends to want to send all of the metahumans to the Island? Nothing about that seems ideal right now. Or have I seen too many shows like this to know bad ideas are a dime a dozen? It’s equally bad when the good guys can’t do something bad and they end up recruiting someone worse. Because the last thing the Barry needs is Captain Cold doing what Barry desperately wants to do for the greater good of Central City.

Captain Cold, I do appreciate your song choice for this little tete-a-tete with Barry. “Cold as Ice” is good as anything to make demands for Barry to follow through on if Cold’s to do what Barry wants. Cold does come up with a demand to get the metahumans transported: his complete withdrawl from the system: no more finger prints, no more police reports, no nothing.

Eobard is the worst! We can admit that right? I mean, showing Eddie the future where he’s not with Iris is bad, especially when he also knows that Iris ends up with Barry. Even with Iris protesting and trying to save what she has with Eddie, but Eddie tells her that he knew that there was always a third person in their relationship and that she should let them end if she loves Eddie as much as she says. Could she have chosen the time and place to let that relationship end?

So is the time when the the fight goes poorly the time to tell Barry that he shouldn’t have ever trusted Captain Cold? Or is it in poor taste when Cold is speechifying his plans to an injured Barry. We the audience is saved that, at least, because Joe does it for us. Then Joe goes on to say that Barry’s different from Oliver because Barry cares about human beings while Oliver doesn’t.

At least when Barry goes to face Wells he gets backup from Ronnie and Oliver as support. Together they manage to get Eobard Thawne or Wells disabled and unconscious on the ground. But for how long?

I suppose we’ll have to wait until next week for that answer when the season finale airs.

The Flash airs on Tuesdays on the CW.
