Web Series Spotlight: Elinor and Marianne Take Barton

By  |

Much like The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and Emma Approved, the web series Elinor and Marianne Take Barton is based on the classic work by Jane Austen; this time centered on characters found in “Sense and Sensibility”.

Elinor and Marianne Take Barton follows the adventures of bright, free-spirited Marianne Dashwood and her thoughtful sister Elinor. From friendship to parties and from family drama to boys, Elinor and Marianne Take Barton provides a no-holds-barred picture of a first year at university.

The series was created and produced by University of Warwick (in Coventry, England) students Olivia Cole and Emily Rose, both BA Film and Literature finalists. Updating the action to a modern-day university, Elinor and Marianne Take Barton explores the highs and lows of being young, (relatively) independent and dealing with friends, family and boys. As well as the video diary of Marianne Dashwood, the series follows the other characters through social media and Tumblr blogs.

The cast and crew consisted entirely of under 25-year olds, including the following:

Bonita Trigg as Marianne Dashwood
Abi Davies as Elinor Dashwood
Sophia Pardon as Charlotte Palmer
Joshua Allsopp as Brandon Palmer
Gareth Roberts as Edward Ferrars
Georgie Wedge as Lucy Steele
Craig Nannestad as Will Johnson

The final two episodes (ever) of Elinor and Marianne Take Barton were to air on May 8 and all of the episodes can be viewed here.
