THE FLASH: “The Trap” {Recap}

By  |

There are so many odd ways to address the opening of this week’s episode: finding out the future and how it all plays out together is heady for everyone, including Gideon. But what can Caitlin, Cisco and Barry do with all the information that Dr. Wells wants to kill the Flash? Besides the obvious of telling Joe and Eddie and hoping for a good idea between the five of them.

That might be important when the show also makes a point of flashing back to when Barry was in the hospital after the lightning strike because who knows if that Dr Wells is the real one or that Thawne from the future.

Caitlin has a great idea to get Cisco to relive his dreams, but as she talks about the lucid dream machine Dr Wells walks in and offers help on how to get into Cisco’s dreams. Does Dr Wells know that he’s helping his enemies right now? Doubtful.

Eddie, for everyone’s sake, please don’t propose to Iris? Joe’s disapproval is one thing and so is Barry’s nervousness.

Back with Caitlin’s invention, Cisco is lucid dreaming and figuring out what happened when he thought Dr Wells was tampering with his data. The dream does reveal everything that the audience saw before – that Eobard Thawne killed Barry’s mom. That maybe that Thawne connects to Eddie is a good point for Joe to raise, even if no one has the answer right now.

For whatever reason, Captain Singh’s fiance is nearly killed by a fire, and that allows Barry on more chance to talk to Dr Wells and figure out what’s going on. It may work out for them that Barry had that conversation, but who knows.

Just as Team Flash is figuring out how to catch and stop Wells, Joe at least realizes that if Eddie proposes to Iris she will say yes and be caught with a man she might not love.

Iris isn’t focusing on any potential wedding, though, but she does figure out that the particle accelerator had somthing to do with all the powered people in Central City. It does give the audience a chance to watch Barry awkwardly dance around not having powers with Iris so she won’t know his secret.

As was bound to happen, as soon as Caitlin tells Dr Wells that Cisco’s working on how to catch the Reverse-Flash he walks into the Bunker to surprise Cisco and dismantle all the work that went into the plan. This showdown between Thawne and Cisco doesn’t go as they want it to and Joe takes some ill-advised shots that kill Dr Wells before he morphs into Hannibal Bates and Dr Wells is still free to terrorize all of Team Flash. Too bad Barry only want to bargain with Thawne for his father’s release and then realizes what a horrible mistake they’ve all made to try and catch him.

Just as Eddie wants to propose, the Reverse-Flash wants to get in the way and kill Iris before Barry saves everything, and reveals himself to Iris. As Thawne has Eddie, the reveal that they’re related finally happens. Eobard’s not interested in killing Eddie to insure that Thawne’s alive much later. Too bad Thawne won’t say exactly how he’s related to Eddie, because that’d really help all of us.

The Flash airs on Tuesdays at 8 PM Eastern/7 PM Central on The CW.
