SCANDAL Recap: First Lady Sings the Blues
I was annoyed last week – annoyed that Olivia, crazy smart Olivia, can’t seem to find a man her Dad didn’t pick for her. I totally understand the premise of Scandal. Olivia is this badass business woman. She handles shit, like a boss. Her personal life however is a mess and I’m okay with that. What annoys me is that no matter how messy your personal life is, if you are as smart as Olivia then at some point you have to see that what you are doing isn’t working. For anyone. That being said I can’t figure out how Shonda and her team of writers are going to make this okay. There is nothing I can think of that will make stabbing Jake alright. Jake is the only single, no longer having his strings pulled by her father, truly in love with Olivia for no other reason than he loves her guy. So yes, lets stab him. Let’s pull him from the equation. Let’s ramp up the drama on a season that has already been over the top with the drama. Hmmm….apparently I’m still annoyed.
If your first sentence of this episode is “My Dad will kill all of you just to teach me a lesson” then you have problems beyond imagination. That should give you a glimpse of the disaster your life has become.
A few things happening this week. First off Mellie is running for Senate so of course Sally Langston has quite a bit to say. Nasty things. Cyrus shuts her down though by going on her show (Fitz made him) and reminding her that if she had successfully become President she wouldn’t have expected her dearly departed Daniel to stay at home and not work.
However, no matter how well Cyrus did, America still doesn’t want Mellie to run for Senate. Fitz calls Liv for help. Their song plays but they aren’t at all lovey. She breaks down though and helps him. She says to remind people Mellie sleeps next to the President and the voters of Virginia should be happy about that. It will help them have their issues heard sooner, etc…It works and it looks like Mellie is on her way to being the next Senator of Virginia.
Now lets talk about Jake. He survives, barely. They can’t take him to a doctor so they call Charlie who calls a “mob” doctor. In exchange for a favor from Liv he will save Jake. He has a friend who is a retired KGB assassin. This friend, Mary, no longer wants to be an assassin. Liv tries to get her “released” from service, even going so far as offering up her father to the KGB handler. Command isn’t very popular in Russia. Only Command finds out and ends up killing the assassin, her grandkids and the handler. Command calls Olivia to remind her, “Against me you will never win.” Her dad’s a peach, isn’t he?
This causes Olivia to insist the B613 investigation is over, they are done. She wants them all to hear her – as Russell listens from the other room. Oh did I mention Russell gets shot by Command? Yeah, Command is pissed that Jake isn’t dead so he shoots Russell to get Olivia to take him in. It works and he ends up laying on a table next to Jake. He even tries to kill Jake one more time to no avail. Can I make a comment here? Why does nobody think it is weird when their boss wants them to sleep with their daughter? Is that a thing that happens that I don’t know about?
Anyway after her plea to drop this B613 case Jake gets taken to a hospital and Russell comes home with Olivia. Russell tattles to Command. Command says Operation Foxtail is now a go.
Thankfully Olivia is onto Russell, she pulls her gun on him, in bed, and tells him he is going to spill it all.
Scandal airs Thursday 9/8c on ABC
