MODERN FAMILY: KNOCK ‘EM DOWN {RECAP}

By  |

Yay! Modern Family is back! Did Phil commit a crime? Does Jay act gay to be a part of a bowling team? I would say yes to both of those questions! As you can see, there was a lot going on in this episode so let’s get to it!

Cam asked Jay to fill in on his all-gay bowling team for the finals, but didn’t tell Jay that he was supposed to be gay until he got there. Just a minor detail Cam forgot to mention, no big deal. After some hesitation Jay agreed to play along and he did a good job of it. Cam’s rival Martin (Guest star Oliver Pratt) immediately knew Jay was not gay, so Cam told him that Jay had a crush on him and that was why he was acting so strange. Wow! Cam really put Jay out there! Jay still played along for the love of the sport (bowling that is). Martin started to get a little crush on Jay and asked him out to dinner and when Jay turned him down, he got off of his game. He went from throwing strikes to gutter balls. It was pitiful! Cam’s team won and it was one of the greatest moments of Cam’s life until Jay got a conscious and admitted that he was not gay to Martin. That cheered Martin up because Cam’s team got disqualified. Aw! Sorry Cam!

While the Jay and Cam were bowling, Mitch and Gloria planned a crazy night out dancing with Haley. They were determined to stay out later that Jay and Cam. They met up with Haley and she had some drinks for them to pre-game before they went to the club. Mitch and Gloria were doing great but ended up falling asleep on the couch before it was time to leave for the club (Haley and her friends weren’t leaving until 10:30 and the band wasn’t going to start until midnight). I guess their idea of a pre-game was a nap. Haley woke them up and suggested they go dancing another time (preferably in the daytime) but they had to prove to their spouses that they weren’t getting old so they went. Once they got to the club, it was loud and crowded and they didn’t last 3 minutes inside before they left. Well at least they tried.

Phil and Claire were surprised when their neighbors Ronnie and Amber asked them out to dinner but accepted their invitation. Someone else in the neighborhood had an offensive statue on their lawn and everyone (including Ronnie and Amber) hated it. Surprisingly they had a very enjoyable dinner. Once Ronnie and Amber suggested that they tie the statue to his truck with a rope and drive it out of the neighborhood, things got awkward. Claire and Phil understood their hatred for the thing but weren’t willing to do anything illegal.

That all changed when they got home and realized they added lights to statue. That was it. All bets were off for Claire. She was in! Phil was still against it, but Ronnie, Amber and Claire hopped out of the truck and tied rope around the statue. Phil stayed in the car and tried to teach them a lesson by driving off but he didn’t realize the car was in reverse. He backed up into the statue and knocked it down. Not the plan, but mission accomplished. It was destroyed! Then Phil, Claire, Ronnie and Amber all sat outside together drinking wine and enjoying each other’s company. That statue might have been offensive, but it was a conversation piece that brought these neighbors (who once didn’t like each other) together. We’ll have to see how long this friendliness continues, but it was a nice change of pace.
