The Good Wife 6.13 – ‘Dark Money’ I Need A Shower.
Our beloved characters return at long last and they brought Mr. Sweeney along for the ride. Diane argues a case of 50 Shades of Smarm which centers around one of Colin’s alleged murders. In a stroke of pure genius Dylan Baker played both Mr. Sweeney and the horrible actor who portrayed Mr. Morris. I loved the irony and absurdity of the whole scenario.
Mr. Sweeney is unhappy with Diane and Cary’s representation and is prepared to bribe Alicia to get her help. Alicia’s argument was lost the moment he threatened to reveal the source of her major campaign contributor, Lemond Bishop.
Meanwhile Kalinda gets a call from Lemond himself, her favor is due. Mr. Bishop wants her to act as a bodyguard to his most precious asset, Dylan, his son. Being the child of a Crime Lord is tough, and Dylan is not only being followed, but is a target of school-yard bulling. We were given a wonderful glimpse of Lemond’s heart while watching his anguish over Dylan’s struggles.
Everyone knows Kalinda is leaving this season. I am beginning to regret that choice. Finally we are treated with a storyline that we care about on the eve of her departure. I can honestly say I’m gonna miss her.
Alicia continues on her doomed campaign journey all the while trying to keep her soul intact. I say doomed, because the further this thing goes along, the dirtier I feel just watching. She meets with Frank Prady and learns her “Pack” is up to no good again and has been releasing rouge robo calls.
Mrs Florrick is forced to yet again reign in her campaign managers. At the same time she learns about a potential mega-donor Prady is courting. Mr. Moneybags, Guy Redmayne, is played by guest star Ed Asner. I love how the show casts beloved characters in disturbing and dark roles. Mr. Redmayne most certainly is disgusting and completely repulsive in word and deed. Watching his ham-handed pawing of Alicia along with his horrible opinions made me acutely uncomfortable.
Alicia is successful in both obtaining her much needed capital as well as keeping Mr. Sweeney out of jail when an errant chum-hum gopher appeared forcing the other side to withdraw. At the end of a victorious day, Alicia feels just how we hoped she would, awful. Sometimes the idea of a thing is much better than the obtaining, especially if the personal cost is too high. Thank you Grace, for bringing us home again.
Observations & Musings:
• Reedman: I’ve to the testicles of a twenty year old.
Alicia: “Where? In your briefcase?”
• Prady: “You’re disgusting.” We completely agree!
• Marisa the bodywoman was a delightful distraction in this dark episode.
• Alicia:” I hope I’m not interrupting.”
Sweeney: “No. We were just basking in the musk of each other’s pheromones.” Eww. Just, eew!
• Prady: “I think campaigning is a lonely profession. And the only one who shares that loneliness, is you.” Well said. Very well said.
