What to Expect on TV in March

Spring will be upon us in the middle of March and throughout the coming month there will be network and cable dramas coming back from their short mid-season or extended winter breaks, new shows debuting as well as made-for-TV movies and event series too.

Here is just some of the shows and movies to expect on TV in March:

Once Upon a Time will return from its long, extended winter break on ABC on March 1 at 8 PM, followed by the two-hour debut on the new drama Secrets and Lies at 9 PM. Secrets and Lies is the American version of the Australian series that follows Ben Garner (film star Ryan Phillippe), a family man who discovers the body of a young boy and quickly becomes the prime suspect in his death. Ben then goes in search of the real killer in order to clear his name.

That same night will feature the two-hour Christmas episode of Downton Abbey on PBS at 9 PM. Also that night over on CBS will be the series debut of Battle Creek will air at 10 PM. Two mismatched law enforcement officers, played by Josh Duhamel (Las Vegas) and Dean Winters, whose polar opposite views of the world and crime-solving breed frustration, disdain, humor and possibly a grudging respect as they clean up the hardscrabble streets of Battle Creek, Michigan.

The season premiere of The Following will air on FOX on March 2 at 9 PM.

Now that Marvel’s Agent Carter has come to a close on ABC, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be back from its extended break on ABC on March 3 at 9 PM.

On March 4, CSI: Cyber is the latest incarnation on CBS to debut at 10 PM. The FBI’s team of cyber-crime investigators, headed by Special Agent Avery Ryan (Patricia Arquette from Medium), works to solve cases involving the dark-net. That same night the second season of Broadchurch will air on BBC America at 10 PM while the season finale of Suits will air at 10 PM on the USA Network.

Two new series will debut on March 5 with the first being American Crime on ABC at 10 PM. American Crime focuses on a young couple in Modesto, California, who were brutally attacked in their home leaving Matt Skokie, a war vet, murdered, and his wife, Gwen, unconscious, barely hanging on. The crime sends shock waves throughout the community stirring up tensions across socio-economic and racial lines. The other is the USA Network event series Dig that will debut at 10 PM. Dig centers on Peter (Jason Isaacs from the Harry Potter franchise), an FBI agent stationed in Jerusalem who, while investigating a murder of a woman archaeologist, uncovers a conspiracy 2000 years in the making that threatens to change the course of history.

After more than a month’s break, Revenge will be back with a new episode on March 8 at 9 PM on ABC.

The following day, March 9, The Originals and Jane the Virgin will both be back after a two week break on The CW and 8 and 9 PM respectively. Meanwhile, that same night, Bates Motel will be back for its third season on A&E at 9 PM followed by the debut of the American version of The Returned will debut on A&E at 10 PM. The Returned, much like the French original, focuses on a small town that is turned upside down when several local people, who have been long presumed dead suddenly reappear, bringing with them both positive and detrimental consequences.

On March 11, The 100 will air its season finale on The CW at 9 PM. While The Vampire Diaries and Reign will be back on The CW on March 12 after a short break at 8 and 9 PM respectively.

The new movie Portrait of Love will debut on the Hallmark Channel on March 14 at 9 PM. A well-known fashion photographer (Bree Williamson from Haven and Deception) visits her hometown and reconnects with her former high school sweetheart (Jason Dohring from Veronica Mars and Moonlight). The dynamic duo pair up for the first time in years to compete in the town’s centennial art competition, rekindling their artistic inspiration and the romance they left behind.

Then on March 15, the new scripted drama The Royals will debut at 10 PM on E! The Royals focuses on the lives of a fictional modern-day monarchy in England.

Castle will be back after a three week break on ABC on March 16 at 10 PM while the season finale of the new MTV thriller Eye Candy will air that same night at 10 PM.

The Flash will be back with new episodes on The CW on March 17 at 8 PM followed by the debut of the new series iZombie at 9 PM. iZombie centers on Olivia “Liv” Moore (Rose McIver from Once Upon a Time) was a rosy-cheeked, disciplined, over-achieving medical resident who had her life path completely mapped out, until the night she attended a party that unexpectedly turned into a zombie feeding frenzy. Afterward, she has become part zombie and currently works at a coroner’s office so she can eat brains so she can survive, which gives her a useful ability to get the memories from said brains to help solve homicide mysteries.

Also on March 17, Perception will air its series finale on TNT at 10 PM.

On March 18, Arrow will be back with new episodes at 8 PM followed by Supernatural moving to its new night on The CW at 9 PM Meanwhile, the two-hour series finale of Glee will air on FOX at 8 PM while Grimm will be back after a short mid-season break on NBC at 9 PM.

Bones will be back with its spring premiere on March 26 at 9 PM on FOX. While on March 29, the PBS mini-series Mr. Selfridge and the British drama Call the Midwife will return at 8 and 9 PM respectively. And, Finding Carter will return for its second season on MTV on March 31 at 10 PM.
