DOWNTON ABBEY: Arrests and Weddings {Recap}

By  |

Let’s start with the bad news and then go to the good, shall we?

Mr. Green’s murder investigation has come to a head and after Anna and Bates are at Scotland Yard one day, Anna is eventually arrested for killing him. Everyone in the house is there to see Anna lead away and they all vow to help clear her because no one believes that she killed him, even those who know what Green did to her.

Now that that’s out of the way, there’s much happier news on the horizon: Rose’s wedding. Everyone leaves York for London because Rose and Atticus will be married in a Registry Office since neither can be wed in their respective religious houses.
However, that doesn’t mean that the wedding goes smoothly. Susan tries to ruin it twice: once by framing Atticus at his stag night with a tart and then by announcing that she and Shrimpy are getting a divorce before the ceremony. Lord Sinderby’s not a fan of divorce, but he can’t do much when Susan makes it known. Susan had wanted to ruin the wedding because this will leave Rose without any of the money she had before or any standing in the community.

In the other parts of the house, most everything else settles down. Thankfully.

The War Memorial is unveiled (it aired on Rememberance Sunday in the UK) and in addition to the piece that the committee had commissioned, a small plaque recognizes Mrs. Patmore’s nephew.

The Russian Prince is still trying to court Violet, but she’s not keen on the idea of being that old and lovers after so many years.

Speaking of things that relate to Violet, Danka also is a dangerous woman to have around other servants. She cons this poor hired footman to be her mark at a bar during the wedding until Thomas figures it out and sets her straight.

Isobel and Lord Merton are not going to end well, at least if Isobel has it right. Isobel does ask if she should put up a fight for Lord Merton, and Violet then has to think of what it would be like if she were to give into the Prince’s wishes.

While exploring London during the wedding week, Daisy feels like her life has been opened up thanks to all her new knowledge but also feels cheated from all the years before she didn’t have it. She wants to explore so much more that she gives her notice and wants to make it in London. Mrs Patmore has a cry about it and tries to tell Daisy that it’ll be okay, but there’s no way to make that right. Daisy isn’t going to leave Downton until after her exams, but it still feels strange to know that she’ll leave eventually.

To help pay for the better houses that will be build on their land, Robert decides to sell that painting that put a rift between he and Cora.

He also – finally – figures out that Marigold is Edith’s daughter after the War Memorial, but Cora tells him not to say anything.

Roz lives in the Los Angeles area, and has been a long time California girl. Despite her better judgment, she enjoys shows about the shallow sides of her home city, but will also find time to watch iZombie, Jane the Virgin, and much more. With a love of history, she also watches anything that is grounded in real life, including Victoria and black-ish. Having worked with children, she also follows shows she knows they watch (reminding her of those days of yore for her in the process). Contact her at roz@nicegirlstv.com.
