Happy Valentine’s Day TV Lovers
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching I wanted to take the time, much like I have done over the last few years, to salute my favorite TV couples. This time around I will focus on actual couples from just some of my favorite dramas, who have either gotten back together over this past TV season, have gotten married or are desperately trying to make their relationship work.
While the following list may not reflect everyone’s current, favorite TV couples they sure are my top 10 for this season.
Here goes:
Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser on Outlander (Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe) – Outlander, based on the international best-selling novel by Diana Gabaldon, debuted in on Starz back in August of 2014, quickly becoming a hit not only with the long-time fans of the book series but also with the viewers who were entranced by the chemistry between Jamie and Claire.
Richard Castle and Kate Beckett on Castle (Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic) – Of course, Castle and Kate have been an ongoing favorite couple for me since the show debuted on ABC back in 2009; but now that they are finally married (despite the crazy ass way that whole event played out), I still love them as a couple.
Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak on Arrow (Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards) – This relationship has been very rocky to say the least; and given how upset Felicity currently is with Oliver, it’s not going to be smooth sailing. That being said I want to believe that TPTB at The CW and specifically behind the show itself, will find a way to get them together on strong footing, eventually.
Dr. Zoe Hart and Wade Kinsella on Hart of Dixie (Rachel Bilson and Wilson Bethel) – Zoe and Wade have had a complicated relationship from the very beginning. Their on-again, off-again status has driven plenty of fans of The CW series crazy, but let’s hope – now that Zoe is expecting their child – that the couple will work everything out and stay together.
Emma Swan and Killian Jones aka Captain Hook on Once Upon a Time (Jennifer Morrison and Colin O’Donoghue) – As any viewer of the ABC fairytale series knows, Emma has had a lifetime of problems with commitment and family relations, but let’s hope that despite all the obstacles that have gotten in the way, that she and Hook can make it work.
Sebastian “Bash” and Kenna de Poitiers on Reign (Torrance Coombs and Caitlin Stasey) – This couple was forced into marriage by Bash’s father the King against their wishes; but given time they have come to love each other. That doesn’t mean they haven’t had their ups and downs, though, but through it all they seem to genuinely love each other.
Audrey Parker and Nathan Wuornos on Haven (Emily Rose and Lucas Bryant) – It took a number of seasons, but Audrey and Nathan have finally become a couple in this long-running Syfy series. And now that her evil “twin” Mara has been vanquished, hopefully this will pave the way for their relationship to move forward, but given the fact that Duke released all those troubles over the town, things could go very badly.
Clay Danvers and Elena Michaels on Bitten (Greyston Holt and Laura Vandervoort) – To say that Clay and Elena have an unconventional relationship is an understatement. But once Elena learned what Clay had done, sacrificing their love for each and, more importantly, her life, she realized that he is her ideal mate. Let’s just hope that this revelation isn’t ruined by the actions of Clay’s grandfather.
April Carver and Leo Hendrie on Chasing Life (Italia Ricci and Scott Michael Foster) – They may have started out as reluctant friends through their cancer support group, but that changed one night in a funeral home (of all places). And now that Leo is recuperating for his surgery while April waits for her bone marrow transplant, they are both trying to have a normal life as much as possible. Hopefully it will all work out for them.
Elizabeth Thatcher and Jack Thornton on When Calls the Heart (Erin Krakow and Daniel Lissing) – In the beginning Jack may have resented Elizabeth for being the reason he was assigned to be the Mountie for the small town of Coal Valley, but time has a way of changing things. When it looked like Elizabeth would be leaving for a new school post (one that she actually decided on her own not to take), Jack stepped up to confess his feelings for her. We shall all see what season 2 of this Hallmark Channel series has in store for the new love birds, though.
