THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: WOKE UP WITH A MONSTER {RECAP}

Happy New Year TVD fans! It looks like Damon and Elena are getting closer, and I love how Stefan supported Caroline in this episode. Jo and Alaric make such a cute couple, but don’t think it’s all roses in Mystic Falls because there is that problem child Kai. I hope you are ready for the crazy because you know Kai is going to bring it! This was a great episode directed by Mr. Paul Wesley himself so let’s get to it!

Kai took Elena on a hostage tour of Mystic Falls while he learned to manage his new found magic. At the high school he tortured her. She lit him on fire and found a phone to call Damon for help. Jo and Damon came to the rescue and she managed to do a cloaking spell. They got Elena but Jo wasn’t strong enough to cover the three of them with the spell. Kai found them and Damon told Jo to get out of there. Damon and Elena managed to get away from Kai (not without Elena being staked). Damon was about to kick Kai’s ass when Alaric and Jo showed up. They all left together and Kai is still a problem.

Caroline brought her Mother home from the hospital and was on a mission to find a cure for her cancer (she still was having issues accepting that vampire blood wouldn’t kill cancer). She found a specialist at Duke University and decided to take a trip which was convenient for Stefan because he wanted to check up on the real Sarah Salvatore. Road trip!

Stefan found Sarah Salvatore (who went by Sarah Nelson) at a student photography showcase. He was admiring her work when Enzo appeared next to him. Stalker much? He said he wanted new artwork for his wall. Yeah right. Enzo figured out who Sarah Nelson really was, so Stefan fessed up and told him the whole story and hoped Enzo wouldn’t tell Damon the truth.

It was a witch party at the Salvatore mansion! Liv was attempting to train Jo with her magic but it wasn’t going so well; she was getting pretty good at breaking dishes though. Luke was against her helping Jo. She didn’t want to merge with Luke because she knew that he was stronger than she was and she would die. Luke didn’t agree with her, but in the end he came around and told their father that they wouldn’t merge. He loved his sister too much to let her die.

After talking with the specialist, Caroline didn’t have any good news. There wasn’t anything they could do for her mother. She did find a patient whose case was very similar to her mom’s. She gave him her blood as an experiment and it worked. He was on his death bed, then later that day he was up and walking. This convinced Caroline that she could heal her mom.

Stefan tried to warn her that it might not work, but she was determined. They shared a really sweet moment when he dropped her off at home. I know all the Steroline fans were dying to see them kiss but it didn’t happen. Not yet.

Caroline told her mom about the man and how her blood healed him. She convinced her mom to drink her blood, just as we saw the man spitting up blood and dying. Caroline’s blood actually accelerated the spread of his cancer and caused him to die. Now Sheriff Forbes drank her blood too. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s not looking good for Sheriff Forbes.

Favorite Quote: Sheriff Forbes to Damon, “Have you at least managed to patch things up with Ric?”

Damon: “Well, baby steps. Step 1-Allow him to turn my house into Hogwarts.”  I love the Harry Potter reference! Shout out to all the Harry Potter fans.

Honorable Mention: Jeremy had a nice shirtless scene in the beginning when he walked in the kitchen. *whistles* Happy New Year Ladies!

Badass Moment of the night: After Kai melted her daylight ring, Elena lit her hand on fire from the sun and then sprayed Kai with fire and knocked his crazy butt down. It was quick, smart and badass.
