12 MONKEYS – 1.02 ‘Mentally Divergent’ North Korea & Flower Power
Year 2043. Cole and Ramsey are sent to investigate a metal hospital when a new clue is discovered in Dr. Railley’s broadcast. The clue is not in what they found, but what they didn’t find. File 248 is missing. Enter Cole’s next mission: Go to 2015 and discover patient 248.
We are given the treat of witnessing not one, but two splinter events when Cole is accidentally sent to North Korea 2006. Thank Goodness the slingshot worked! North Korea wouldn’t know what to do with him anyway.
Turns out, Patient 248 is none other than the recently assassinated Mr. Frost/Goins daughter. Despite his lovely “Otter Eyes” Cole only succeeds in further aggravating the unstable woman. However, something about their interaction shook a clue loose, when little miss crazy mentioned the “Night Room.”
Later, Cole gets some one-on-one time with Jennifer who reveals the truth. She was a worker in her fathers lab and is the only one left alive who knows the location of this secret lab which presumedly holds an unknown deadly virus. “The’ deadly virus.
In 2015 Cassandra calls her Ex for help. Aaron comes running although he still doesn’t believe her. Cassandra returns to her friend Jeremy’s house only to discover his petal strewn body and his murderer who looks an awful lot like Lurch. It seemed that Lurch had only two imperatives. 1. Stop asking questions and 2. Where is Cole?
This is where the timelines get messy. Coles’s discovery of the ‘Night Room” appears right on the heels of Dr. Railey’s entrance thanks to her Ex and his friends in Washington who have eyes on North Korea. Cassie’s Flower Murderer is also the same killer who killed all the scientists in search of the secret lab. And, now that dear daughter appears to be regaining her memory, he is back for more.
Flower Lurch is successful in carting away Jennifer but not before he encounters Cole and Cassie in the way. It’s deja vu all over again when the psychopath mentions yet another earlier encounter which Cole hasn’t had yet. Geez! Time jumping is indeed messy business! I sure hope the writers have this thing all mapped out!
In the end Jennifer is taken and just before Cole’ poofs” again, an alliance of sorts is made between he and Cassie. The two are now united in their search for the army of the 12 Monkeys despite Cole’s handler’s objections in 2043.
Observations, Questions and Quotes:
• Boys will always be boys, even when they’re men. I enjoyed their banter and Ramsey’s instruction
to “Gett some vintage” was hilarious.
• Who is “the one that got away?”
• Cole: “I’m not suppose to be here anymore.”
Jones: “None of us are
What did Cole do that made him want to never exist.
• Cassandra: “There it is. The “she’s gone bat shit look.” Bwhahaha! What man hasn’t said that about a woman!
Jones: “Time is cruel. Mr. Cole. You are risking everything by toying with it. Taunting it.”
