MODERN FAMILY RECAP: THE BIG GUNS

Modern Family was full of fun, potty training, clowns and the police. It’s not a real party until the cops show up. Let’s get to it.

Jay wanted to potty train Joe but Gloria didn’t want to rush him.  She thought if they pushed him too hard, it could be traumatic for him. Jay was determined to potty train him. He tried all sorts of games and books. Then Manny pointed out that since Jay missed a lot of Claire and Mitch’s childhood, he didn’t want the same for Joe. He had a second chance and wanted to make the best of it. Manny is such a smart kid. Jay realized Manny was right and stopped pressuring Joe. That’s when he Joe finally peed in the pot (and all over Jay).

Cam took Lily to junior clown school without Mitch’s permission and Mitch was not happy about it. To prove to Mitch that she was a natural, they performed for him as Fizbo (Cam) and Lizbo (Lily) and Mitch was ready to shoot himself (and he definitely wanted Lily to get a new clown name). Lily ended up not liking the clown business so she started being a “bad clown” and beating up Cam in the process. She didn’t have the heart to tell Cam that she didn’t like being a clown, so she told him it was too much pressure because she could never be as good as Fizbo. Smart girl. Mitch was so relieved and when he saw how she handled the clown situation with Cam, he said she is going to be a lawyer! Too funny!

Claire and Phil were fed up with their country neighbors Amber and Ronnie (guest stars Steve Zahn and Andrea Anders) and their boat in the driveway, so they came up with a plan to get them to move it. Phil called “the big guns” which were his dad Frank (guest star Fred Williard) and his retired friends to make a trip to visit them. They arrived in their RV’s and conveniently parked right in front of Ronnie and Amber’s house. Phil’s plan backfired because the neighbors enjoyed hanging out the retired gang and they drank, sang and smoked on the boat all night. The fun came to an end when buzz kill Claire called the cops. They made the neighbors move the boat and gave tickets to everyone with an RV. Not cool Claire.

My favorite quote of the night – When Gloria talked about not wanting to rush Joe into potty training because it could be traumatic for him, Jay said, “He’s grown up drinking milk from a breast bigger than his head, I don’t think he scares easy.” How do the writers come up with these lines? Hilarious!
